Career Shift

Career Shift

At the pinnacle of her success, she had a small eruption—
only a little pimple, but it caused a large disruption.
For a facial model, we can all make the connection
of why it was impossible–this fault in her complexion.
Before they could fire her, she staged a small defection
to a facial product intended for correction.
From Loreal to Clearasil—she said by her election,
but so does nature alter fate by natural selection.

Words of the day are pinnacle, disruption,  vacate and connection.

What are the Chances?

A while ago, (and also earlier today) in my blog, I published  this photo of my sisters and my dad and I in our living room. I think I was 8 or 9 years old at the time the photo was taken. Soon after the first time I published it, a friend here in Mexico, Janice Kimball,  called me and said she had a gift for me and could I come to dinner and she would give it to me. I did so and when she gave me the “gift” it was piece of material she inherited from her aunt that she has kept all these years and even brought down to Mexico with her. Yesterday, I made it into a pillow and this is a photo of it. What are the chances?

I was going to put it down in my hammock with other throw pillows and put it in a basket at the foot of my bed with some other materials going down to my studio or my hammock area so I’d remember to take them down, but when I went to bed last night, I happened to see it and put it on my bed instead and slept on it all night. It was so comforting I decided to leave it there.  Being in lockdown means you never have to make your bed!!  ;o)

Happy Father’s Day to My Dad!!!

I’ve done some additions and revisions to this tribute to my dad done last year so I’m posting it again. He was a wonderful father who made all of his daughters’ dreams possible through his hard work and his insistence that girls should have an education and his support of all our goals. Happy Father’s day, Daddy.

I had so much fun looking back through old photos of my dad.  Thought I’d share them with you. My two nieces are visiting my sister in Phoenix right now so thought they’d get a kick out of seeing these photos of their grandad and grandad-in-law as well. Click on any photo to enlarge it.  Clicking on them also provides explanations for some of the photos. My dad died at the age of 70 in 1974.

Alarm Clock Rejoinder

Alarm Clock Rejoinder

My alarm clock’s rude awakening I eschew vis-á-vis
a gentler mode of wakeup that is buzzer-free.
Questions upon awakening I find somewhat aberrant.
Kindly save your queries until I am more coherent.
If I’m a pebble that must drop into my daily start,
I pray the ripples of my morning  come farther apart.

Prompt words today are vis-á-vis, awakening, coherent, save and ripples,

Coronavirus Reflections

Thus cloistered, I grow pensive. What shall I think of next?
Would thinking of the past or future render me less vexed?
My wild garden beckons. The dogs cavort and bicker.
Hummingbird wings vibrate. The swallowtails all flicker
here and there between the flowers each side of the path.
The small dog rolls and scratches. Perhaps he needs a bath.

As I inflict myself upon this wild abandoned scene,

will I disturb them here with my laptop and magazine?
If I lie very still they will barely know I’m here.
The dogs will settle all too soon and shift to lower gear.
Yesterday soon vanishes. Tomorrow goes unplanned.
Only the present holds me. Past and future go unmanned.

Word prompts today are cloistered, pensive, flicker, inflict and wild.

Mystery Flower, FOTD June 20, 2020

IMG_8982

I just glanced at this flower growing in the pot where normally kalanchoe grow and went in to get my camera. It was only while I was transferring it into my photos that I realized those were definitely not kalanchoe leaves. I have no idea what it is or how it got there. Either I bought something I didn’t know the name of or it is a volunteer brought in by another plant. At any rate, it is thriving there and the kalanchoes all seem to be gone, so I will enjoy it as a mystery unless some kind soul tells me what it is. This entire bunch is about 2 1/4 inches across. Happy Solstice!
