About lifelessons

My blog, which started out to be about overcoming grief, quickly grew into a blog about celebrating life. I post daily: poems, photographs, essays or stories. I've lived in countries all around the globe but have finally come to rest in Mexico, where I've lived since 2001. My books may be found on Amazon in Kindle and print format, my art in local Ajijic galleries. Hope to see you at my blog.

Macro Monday

I’ve been looking for these photos  I took for years. Finally found them on a disk where I stored photos from an old computer. Yay!

Do you know what this is? If no one guesses, I’ll tell you tomorrow if someone reminds me. Not having a good day memory-wise!! Just got a blank voice message notification from a few minutes ago. I called it and no one answered. Then I realized it was my number! I’d called myself to to to locate my cell phone. Definitely losing it.

Travel Challenge: Day 3

I was nominated by my friend Konstanze Venus to post one favorite travel picture a day for ten days without explanation, then to nominate someone else to participate. That’s 10 days, 10 travel pictures, and 10 nominations. I may not make it to the end of ten days, but for now I nominate Bushboy . Some people I nominate may be on Facebook and others on blogs. Just post wherever you wish but link to me so I know you have. If you are not interested, no problema.

Nowhere in the rules does it say you can’t guess where the photo was taken and that I can’t agree if you are right, say keep guessing if you aren’t.

Spying on Birds

Spying on Birds
A little bird flew around for an hour today with a balled-up Kleenex in her beak, looking for a place to build her nest. Her mate accompanied her and they investigated the plumeria tree for a long time but it is without leaves at the moment. In a few weeks it would be a possibility. Her mate then stood lookout on the Plumeria while she investigated the bamboo and bougainvillea. Finally, she settled on the big cactus..It was fun observing.
Then a vermillion flycatcher took over the lookout branch. If that is a Kleenex I dropped, some of my DNA will be in the nest!!

Locationally Challenged

Locationally Challenged

I’ve misplaced my glasses. Yesterday it was my keys.
If they weren’t attached, I’m fairly sure I’d lose my knees.
Some say I’m absent-minded, others say I am forgetful,
but whatever you may call me, you can bet I’m often fretful.

Whenever I walk through my house, I am forever gleaning
things I’ve lost throughout the week since Yolanda’s last cleaning.
But though I look for hours, my passport just stays lost.
I obsess about it all week long. My dreams are tempest-tossed.

Monday morning, when she arrives, it takes her just a minute
to approach me with her hand held out with my passport in it!
Ironic that though I’m the only one here who can use it,
that I also seem to be the only one who can’t peruse it!

First I lost my laptop and then I lost its mouse.
I looked under the sofa. I combed the whole darn house.
I sought it in the hammock, in the front seat of my car.
It wasn’t on the bathtub ledge, the table or the bar.

Finally, I found it in the last place where you’d look—
on the shelf above the kibble in the doggie nook!
Too many things to think about. Too many things to do.
I simply have to find a way where I can shed a few.

I’ll sacrifice my waistline and a smooth complexion.
I’ll put up with my creaky bones and energy’s defection.
Just to keep my memory is all that I am asking,
like back when I was young and I excelled at multi-tasking.

Prompt words for today are misplaced, bet, legendary and glean.

New Hibiscus! FOTD Dec 6, 2020

I just bought this hibiscus today. I told the woman who owns the vivero I must pass every time I drive into San Juan Cosala that I have no problems with drugs and alcohol but that I’m addicted to plants! They always put the new hibiscus varieties along the road and I almost always fall. I had this one sitting in the kitchen and will plant it on Monday, but there must be enough light that it was still open at 11 PM. Here it is… my first red one, albeit the red is just around the edges. It is six inches across.

Tiny Visitor

As I was rushing out the door to meet the plumber, I caught sight of this tiny guy and had to unlock the door and go back in and get my camera. Luckily, he was still there when I came back. He was no more than two inches long and a good subject. He maintained his pose with a naturally grumpy look on his face!

The Kiss-Off

The Kiss-Off

This incessant waiting clearly is the pits.
Frankly, I am tempted to say I call it quits.
I’ve been standing here for minutes when I’d much rather be seated,
and in spite of the tree’s canopy, I’m feeling rather heated.

The onus is on you, my friend, to tell me why we’re meeting.
You’ve used up your excuses and used up your entreating.
Friends do not do the things you do. They keep your confidences.
They do not carry tales. They come to their friends’ defenses.

You beg to meet just once again and then you show up late?
I rue the day I bonded with such a reprobate.
You have not won me over, in fact, without a doubt,
I fear our friendship’s over. Your test period’s run out!

words for today are canopy, onus, incessant and waiting.

Succulent Rose

I love how much this tiny succulent growing from the end of a branch of its mother plant looks like a yellow rose. The leaves behind it are from a different plant but help to further the ruse.

Try to Be Glad Friday Round-Up

In today’s “Red’s Wrap,” Jan Wilberg has done a perfect job of capturing the ennui of Christmas in the year 2020.

My dog just ate my shirt. Well, not the whole shirt, just the left underarm area where there is a chomp out of the cloth like you might see in a cartoon depiction of a dog going after someone’s shirt. My dog went in my closet and selected this shirt. Lest you decide to ask me why I allowed this to happen, let me just say that it’s never happened before. Almost nothing Swirl chews has ever been chewed before and it is this endless variety that keeps our minds off the pandemic that is chasing us down alleys and banging on the door as we speak. So I am oddly grateful for the diversion.

The southwestern style Dots are not bad. I order groceries online. And then a personal shopper texts me and starts telling me about all they things the store doesn’t have, like regular…
