Temptations

DSC06995

I never did order one of these mocha drinks at La Rueda coffee shop.  I couldn’t be trusted to know how good they were.DSC09265Do they look like luscious chocolates and macaroons?  Wrong. They are sweet potato balls brought to a friend’s Thanksgiving feast…rolled in coconut or pecans and brown sugar.  Yes, they were delicious!!!

DSC09293This pancake breakfast ordered by a friend at Martha’s Cafe in Ajijic was as good as it looks. Proof below:
DSC09294DSC09295But, the shocker was that the oatmeal I ordered was just as good!  I was too hungry to get a picture of it.  Guess I’ll have to go back to prove it to you!!!

IMG_7185 (1)Version 3I love these ancient grinding stones of Mexico and have about a dozen of them scattered through my garden.  My plants crawl over them like jungle growth reclaiming the pyramids and other monuments of Mexico!

Xmas in October: Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge, 10/28/15

Xmas in October (Umbrella Plant and Bougainvillea)

IMG_7203 IMG_7202The combination of the white and green star-shaped blooms on the umbrella plant combined with the red bougainvillea create a Xmas scene even before Halloween–which is echoed by the Xmas decorations already being displayed next to the Halloween costumes in Walmart in Ajijic.  Holiday madness has made it even to Mexico.  Sigh.

Spotted Iris with VisitorVersion 3I didn’t even see the visitor in this photo until I started cropping.  Can you see it?

Sometimes we overdo it in editing and cropping and need to be brought back to our senses.  Please tell me which view you prefer!

Nosegay: Cee’s Flower A Day Challenge 10/12/15

Nosegay

Version 2Where did I find this nosegay?  Not real, but pretty?

Version 2On this sugar skull made by one of the few kids who braved the threat of the weather to come to the sull decorating yesterday. The afternoon session was cancelled, schools shut down and I was advised by Proteccion Civil to leave my house as they feared landslides.  I’m back in my house after a big and frustrating adventure which I am about to write about.

Hide-And-Go-Seek: Flower of the Day Challenge, 10/22/15

                                             Hide-And-Go-Seek

The rain started while we were watching an incredible Iranian film at the Lake Chapala Society.  When we emerged, the rain was a surprise, even though we’d been warned about the big tropical storm about to hit–a long arm of Hurricane Patricia that is predicted to arrive with full force at midnight tomorrow.  I have started to prepare–butane camp cooker, bottles of water freezing in the freezer, candles and oil lamps out, cooking food ahead as I’m about out of gas and I know I have a gas leak.  How could I use $200 worth of gas in three weeks?

Anyway, we decided to be kids and enjoy the block long walk to the car in the rain and were rewarded, when we ducked under cover of the little outside restaurant that was halfway to the gate of LCS, with a view of an incredible orchid tree.  (My name.  I don’t know what it is.)  An added bonus was that I was under the cover of the roof of the open air little restaurant and so I didn’t have to risk getting my lens wet.

It was only after I got home and started playing with the pictures that I spied the various little characters hidden in the flowers.  See if you can find them.

IMG_6938Can you find the koala bear?  Some may think he has more in common with a polar bear.

Spanish Dancer at Midnight: Flower of the Day, 10/21/15

Spanish Dancer at Midnight

IMG_6829The name of this variety of hibiscus really is Spanish Dancer! Another of my shots taken after midnight with the help of a flashlight. From this angle you can’t see the pinkish red at the center of the inside.
