This gap between the tree trunk and wall was just wide enough to hide Yoli’s big chick sucker for her Easter Egg hunt.
This gap in the roof of the “Fly Cafe” (more about this later) is the fault of Hurricane Patricia.
This makeshift mens room is more gap than room. Again, you’ll see more about this story in a later post.

Old Farts at the Beach
How do we choose what to hold on to as life slips away faster––
pulled by a stronger tide?
We want to fall through days with no plans,
like teenagers in a small town,
wandering around to find adventure where they can––
last minute expeditions
to small places
that prick delight.
From beaches piled so high with coral that it shreds our shoes,
we collect shells and driftwood shards and sea skate egg casings––
treasures with no larger price tags than precious time––
hints of another world we have earlier viewed like voyeurs from above,
our goggles misting over as that world darts by
too quickly to catch by hand or camera lens or
anything but memory.
None of us desire to waste time with anything else but wasting time.
“We are in this world to fart around,” Kurt Vonnegut once said,
and we want to have tattoos of it so we won’t forget––
all too aware that soon some of us will.

Painting with Photos
Sometimes when I have a photograph I really can’t use, either because of the subject or the aesthetics, I Just play around with the editing tools. In this case, I came up with two abstract paintings gleaned from the plume and the gills of a roosterfish that a fisherman had left lying on the beach.

B and W––Cee’s Black and White Challenge
B&W
“B” is for bathtub. “W” is for webbing. The pastels in the background insisted on being left alone!!!
“W” is for Waiting!!!
. . . and more “W“aiting, in this case for the dog who usually lived in the house we rented at the beach for three days.
Every day, these three “B“est friends would come to our front door looking for the dog who was missing from our house. On the last day, they surprised us from coming to the back beach side door. Wish I could have seen them finally reunited!
And finally, “B” is for Big Black Birds. In this case, grackles.
