The Doldrums

The Doldrums

Please pardon my annoyance and don’t mind my chagrin—
my great dissatisfaction with the mindset that I’m in.
All the former methods that could cause me to exult:
first prayer and then Buscaglia, pot and the occult,
no longer serve this purpose. I am left here cold and rigid.
My fires of enthusiasm have, I fear, gone frigid.
Yet I think I deserve credit, at least, for still resisting
temptation just to end it all. At least, I’m still existing.

Note: It’s fiction, folks. I’m feeling fine!!! So is Forgottenman. He’s just too much of a clown and affords too many photo opportunities that later come in handy for illustrative purposes. Blame the prompts.

The prompt words today are exult, frigid, credit and chagrin. Here are the links:

Interloper

Interloper

How did you find your way into my dreams,
ripping my comfort apart at the seams?
Once I’d escaped to back rooms of my self,
still I found thoughts of you stacked on a shelf
carefully obscured both in front and above
by other less dangerous memories of love.

You walked nonchalantly into the room
that I had just cleared with a cloth and a broom
of other dangers and sadnesses, not
knowing that once again I had been caught.
Now I hide out behind walls at the back
where all of my worst fears reside in a stack.

Cowering here as you stride through the place
that your very presence has turned dark and base.
How could I have loved such a frightening soul?
The box of my heart turned into a bowl
with all of my secrets and weakness revealed—
things that I now know I should have kept sealed.

There you sit quietly, perched on a chair,
one hand on the desk top, one hand on your hair,
writing cruel words—I know about me.
I ease my way over, hoping to see,
but the paper is empty, your ink has turned clear
making impossible all that I fear.

As now I remember that I let you in,
forgetting all else in the charm of your grin.
The joy of your hand as it guided me sure
across the dance floor—all that allure
that kept me involved in the surface of you
avoiding the dangers that later I’d rue.

So even now, so far from your threat,
I find myself struggling, caught in your net.

That Brilliance

That Brilliance

It echoes through the atmosphere,
slipping through shadows
that too often hoard our attention—
the shine of a heart amidst pain,
that pinprick of light
through a chink in the mortar of a brick wall,
that smile in passing,
that squeeze obscured in a handshake.

There is much light in this world,
but sometimes it lies shattered,
at other times is one sure beam that lights up the day—
that one brilliant sword of light
slashing gray clouds.

We are not always aided in our seeking,
yet must be vigilant in our search,
shifting our glance again and again
to where it lies scattered
through the murkiest days.

Home Security

Home Security

Pop up from your basement and slam the cellar door.
You don’t want a beaver chewing through your floor.
Plug up all the chimneys so birdies won’t fly in.
The only ones you should admit are your friends and kin.

Build a wall around you. Do only what you’ve done.
Letting in those foreign thoughts surely won’t be fun.
Do not talk to strangers. Speak only to your kind.
Hearing other points of view just clutters up your mind.

What you know is all there is so do not search for more.
Board up all your windows. That’s what boards are for.
Do not let other cultures in, for the world is strange,
and if you let the world in, you may have to change.

The Daily Inkling Prompt today is cellar door.

Dry

If I sprinkled you with water, would your coma then abate,
or in trying to revive you have my actions come too late?
Just days ago so vigorous and such a swaying beauty,
you have languished into docile as though you have done your duty.

Prompt words today were vigorous, coma, docile and sprinkle. Sound like opposites to me! Here are the links:

Turkey Talk

jdb photo, 2017

Turkey Talk

All day long, I gobble gobble.
Strut my stuff over the cobble
proud and straight, without a wobble,
until a man comes with a hobble.
I’d tell the rest if I were able,
Instead, I’m laid out on your table!

Want to hear some more turkey talk? Go HERE.

Matt’s prompt today was “Turkey Talk.”

Dear Donald

Dear Donald

Serving your own needs or colluding with the Russians
may bring Comminatory actions or other repercussions,
for though you may be pardoned for malfeasance of your diction,
we find we can’t forgive you for your constant words of fiction.

The way you won your office and your acts of dereliction
toward the country you have wronged may lead to your conviction.
What sentence might such huge acts of questionable reason
carry, let alone the sentence for your acts of treason?

You meet such accusations with rhetoric and a shrug
while cronies in high office choose to sweep them ‘neath the rug.
What do I recommend should they bring charges and convict you?
Alas, that will not happen. It’s your judges who first picked you!

Prompt words today are recommend, carry, comminatory and conviction.  Lots of c’s!!! Here are links to the sites who created those prompts.  Come play along.

Lucid Moon

jdbphoto

Lucid Moon

With half a life lived in the dark,
an owl’s hoot, an answering bark,
the moon across the water scattered,
ragged clouds, wispy and battered––

I float in night and solitude,
the night determining my mood.
I lie in darkness and I brood,
a nightly lucid interlude.

When sunlight comes in fits and starts,
The day brings out my other parts.
They rise in me from dawn to noon,
dispelling powers of the moon.

Thus balanced between dark and light,
each half consumes its daily bite.
I welcome each within its time
Life varied, balanced and sublime.

Matt’s prompt today was “Lucidity.”  The common meaning of “Lucid” is  “clearly expressed” or “easy to understand,” but another meaning is “bright or luminous.”  Why don’t you join in? Here is his link: https://normalhappenings.com/2018/11/21/lucidity-daily-inkling/

Moonstruck

Moonstruck

I am blinded by the rising moon,
as there above the old shed,
it broadcasts
that elsewhere in a larger world
all is well
and as intended.

The prompt words today were broadcast, shed and moonstruck.

Just Do It

Just Do It

Change need not be a hazard. It can be a brand new start.
Thinking up potential problems puts the horse behind the cart.
Just think of what you want to do and set about creating
what it is you want to do. Life’s not best spent in waiting.

Today’s prompt words were haphazard and change.
