Babies Sleeping

They are Tres Reyes Rosca Babies…baked into the Three Kings cake. Whoever gets one has to provide the tamales for the Candelaria celebration on Feb. 2.  Jan. 6 is supposedly when the 3 kings visited and is the 12th day of Christmas.  Candelaria marks the last day. It is the day when everyone takes the baby Jesus from their house’s creche to the church to be blessed so you see people all over carrying babies. The first time I saw businessmen on the subway in Mexico city carrying what looked like baby dolls, I couldn’t figure it out.  At any rate…these are the tiny figures baked into Rosca all over Mexico.  Congratulations to Bruce Horn who was the first to guess it. If you didn’t see the first post on this, see it HERE. There were many clever guesses regarding what these little figures were. It was hard to distinguish their size as there was no way to tell they were just 1½ inches high. I loved the creativity of the answers.  Thanks for playing along.

What Are They???

Can anyone tell me what these are? No fair looking at comments before you do. Guesses are fine. After reading the first comments, I must say that people have come up with some great (wrong) answers. After you make yours, read the other comments. I’ve loved them. When you tire of guessing, you can find the answer HERE.

Vacation Plans

Vacation Plans

Since my store of giddy-up is no longer stellar,
I’m limiting vacation plans to rooftop room and cellar.
My travel guru’s dubious. She says I’ll change my mind.
She thinks I’m merely ground down by the daily grind.

Though I rehearse refusals, the practice doesn’t work.
She merely puts them down as a momentary quirk.
In fact she has been needling me to book a new vacation
and poo-poos my refusals to my great perturbation.

My  stubborn change of attitude regarding foreign travel,
she’s sure that she can pick at till it starts to unravel;
but these are the travel plans for which I’d like to vouch.
The scenery is gorgeous between my bed and couch!

Prompt words today are travel, roof, guru, dubious, needle and rehearsal.

Comfortably Seated

One need not have a chair to be comfortably seated!!!

Colloquy

Colloquy

If you want to float my boat, when you speak your piece,
know when you have made your point and preserve the peace
by resisting going on once you’ve reached your peak.
It’s always best to stop and give others time to speak.

It’s often a consensus that brings matters to right.
Like oil on fire, those who know it all only ignite
conflagrations that make bringing matters to a close
impossible as they attempt their theories to impose.

As tempers flare and anger mounts and epithets are hurled,
as in a drive-by shooting, rank chaos is unfurled.
Pure reason makes its calm retreat, waiting for the day
when each one speaks and then allows others to have their say.

For The Sunday Whirl Wordle 585  the prompt words are: boat preserve speak resist oil fire drive fly shoot matter close right.

Fallen Woman

Sam has asked what tree we would choose to be and perhaps this is fudging a bit, but this  is a poem I wrote a few years ago about the tree I am no doubt fated to become:

Cold Feet

Cold Feet

I find it hard to decide whether
I can stand these shifts in weather.

First it’s hotter, then it’s colder.
Whichever, now that I am older,
I am entitled to complain
that I find both of them a pain!!!!
