Shape, Form, Texture, Light–for Lens Artists Challenge
Texture makes use of shape, form and light to create itself.
The simplest of objects can reflect the most intriguing of shapes.
Contrast between shape and form, backlit by light, can provide surprises. I never could figure out what was sticking out of this seagull’s head but it was attached! I had images of a confrontation with a porcupine.
Shapes need not be geometric and ordered to be intriguing.
Light can add an interesting aspect to what might otherwise have been an ordinay portrait

- Why did we really go to school? For Recess.
- What did teachers do during recess? Oops. You aniticipated my answer to number 2! That said, I’m sure they sat at their desks missing us.
- How did you get to school? I walked…through wind, rain, snow, sleet…to my school which was directly across the street from my house. My parents never once drove me.
- What was life like before the Internet? Butterfly nets, basketball nets, net stockings,
- What is the best thing about social media? No whiffs of bad breath.
- What is your favorite thing to put chocolate sauce on? My tongue.
- Doctors were all wrong…humans don’t need water. What do they need? Cheetos Torciditos.
- Dolphins are not mammals. What are they? The second most intelligent life form on Earth, right after AI
- There is a Lost Dutchman’s Mine, but where is it? If we knew, it wouldn’t be lost, would it?
“The Big Empty”, for the Cosmic Photo Challenge: Wide Open Spaces
These are all photos of the country around Murdo, South Dakota, where I grew up. First, Interstate 90 which cut through the edge of the town, and the country just to the west of town. The third and fourth photos are of the last piece of land my sister and I owned there which we sold a few years ago. It had once contained the last house my parents lived in there which had since blown away in a tornado. Do these qualify as wide open spaces???
