For Cee’s FOTD

Autumn Color in Mexico

The most autumn color we get in my part of Mexico is the vibrant African Tulip trees that are in full bloom right now.

For Cee’s Autumn Colors prompt and also in answer to  Jez’s fantastic photos of turning trees on his Fan of Autumn 178 Post.

Flame Tree: FOTD Nov 27, 2019

This huge African Tulip Tree (Flame Tree) shades the entire courtyard at the Chapala Society, but from where I sat, I could see only two blooms at the very top–20 or 30 feet above me. This is one of them.

It’s a toss-up whether the African Tulip Tree or Royal Poinciana is the most beautiful tree on earth, imho.

African Tulip Tree: Flower of the Day, March 5, 2017:

IMG_1501 (1).jpg

Sighted these blooms on an African Tulip tree across the street from Martin’s Restaurant, where we conduct our weekly writers group. The roof had a piece of plastic tarp hanging down from it that flapped in the wind, obscuring this view.  I had to take a few to finally get this.  My favorite tree.  I had a yellow one in my yard that was blocking my last view of the lake so sadly I had to cut it down.

Tulip Tree with Kiskadee : Cee’s Flower of the Day, August 5, 2015

Tulip Tree with Kiskadee

IMG_3216
This fellow was at the opposite end of the lot at the top of a giant African Tulip Tree.  Thanks to the wonderful zoom on my new Canon camera, I captured him!  Thanks, Canon.

IMG_3222He was catching bugs as they went by.  You can see one in his beak in this photo.

IMG_3223Here you can see him going after yet another fly.  It was an almost constant repetition of a theme.  A great hunting ground!  My shutter speed wasn’t fast enough to freeze his movement, but at least the flowers were in focus!

IMG_3230And then he flew away! He always returned, but my mind turned to other things, and two days later I had this nice surprise on my camera when I finally got around to downloading the pictures from my camera.  Another day’s challenge met!!!

(In Mexico, the name for the African Tulip Tree is Tulipan.  It is also sometimes called a Fountain Tree.)
