Artful Bougainvillea

This actually is a photo of a bougainvillea, not a painting.

Flor or Faux?
Some of these lovely blooms are flowers and some aren’t. Can you tell the difference?

Faux
Flor and Faux (How can it be both at once?)
Just the white center blooms are flores. The orange “petals” are actually leaves,

Flor. (Just these central “berries” are the flower of the poinsettia. As with bougainvilleas, the red “petals” are actually leaves.)
Faux. (I made this camellia out of an egg carton.) The boy is also faux. The fire is real.

Xmas in October (Umbrella Plant and Bougainvillea)
The combination of the white and green star-shaped blooms on the umbrella plant combined with the red bougainvillea create a Xmas scene even before Halloween–which is echoed by the Xmas decorations already being displayed next to the Halloween costumes in Walmart in Ajijic. Holiday madness has made it even to Mexico. Sigh.
Wallflower Bougainvillea
I love this shy little wallflower, so I’m going to let her be the star in this late post.

Yolanda tells me she thinks this beautiful insect is a “Chinche” and that it has a strong odor. I took pictures of it for several minutes and even somehow disengaged the flower it was on so it fell to the ground and it still didn’t present its odor, so I can only guess it enjoyed the attention. This is one to enlarge. Just click on it! Oh, Of course the flower is the ubiquitous bougainvillea! I have them in every color and size all over my property!

More Orange Bougainvilleas
Okay, more orange bougainvilleaS, but this time with the real flowers : (Click on photos to enlarge.)
Each of those little coral pistil-looking rods is actually a flower bud getting ready to open. Since my last bougainvilleas post, most of them have opened, giving the bougainvillieas a fluffier look! I like both stages–sparse and frilly! In Mexico, they are bugambilias and they have many namesakes: housing developments, shopping centers, movie theaters.

First Blush: Bougainvillea– Flower of the Day Challenge
This bougainvillea has a different look from my others. I love its simplicity, color, and the three pistil-like protrusions. I know that literally, these are leaves, not flowers, but somewhere within their makeup they contain what will become flowers!

Orange Bougainvillea: Cee’s Flower of the Day, 8/27/15
This is my very favorite color of bougainvillea. It changes in color within the same plant from pinkish to orange to gold. I believe it depends on the amount of sunlight it gets, but I haven’t really researched it so that is opinion only.
Which of the below treatments of the same photo do you prefer?

Bougainvillea

Unfortunately, this beauty is outside my wall on the front of my house where I really haven’t noticed it. This is my very favorite color of bougainvillea (bugambilias in Mexico) and it only stays orange like this when it is in bright sunlight for part of the day. When I planted it in Boulder Creek, CA, it always turned pink for lack of sunlight in the redwoods. I need to plant one in my back yard as well so I can see it every day.
