Palm Tree Blossoms: Flower of the Day Mar 22, 2016

IMG_3951

This little woodpecker wakes me up most mornings, pecking away 80 feet or more up one of my palm trees.  This morning it brought a gift by bringing my attention to these beautiful palm blossoms that I usually only notice floating in my pool.

Bougainvilleas––Flower of the day Mar 16, 2016

The wild tumble of bougainvillea actually forms a wall in my friend’s open-walled house.  She lives about as outside as it is possible to live without actually living outside.  Later on this week, I’ll show you her house, studio and art.  I love the wildness of these intermixed vines, the shadows and the colors. Here’s another one for you, Cee.

Honeysuckle–Flower of the Day March 13, 2016

These honeysuckle sepals become their own stark bloom that  is just as intriguing once their blossoms drop. (Click on first picture to enlarge and on arrows to see other two enlarged photos.)

Quiet: Flower of the Day 3/6/2016

UQB: Unidentified Quiet Blossom

I think this is some sort of nut tree and the closest I could find to the leaf shape was a cashew tree.  I found one picture that showed it with a star-shaped flower, but in other pictures, the petals were more rounded.  I think my friend told me this was an almond tree, but it definitely isn’t an almond.  Once again, if you recognize it, please educate me.

This non-assuming little flower deserved some extra attention. As with most things in nature, close up, it makes more of a statement.

Thanks to Steve Frowlne for identifying this flower found in my friend Carol Lopez’s garden.

Here is a bit more information about it, thanks to Wikipedia: Hibiscus schizopetalus is a species of Hibiscus native to tropical eastern Africa in Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique. Its common names include fringed rosemallow,[1] Japanese lantern, coral hibiscus, and spider hibiscus.

It couldn’t be further away from Cee’s tulip that is her flower of the day.  To see hers, go here:
