Autumn Mums: Flower of the Day, Sept. 24, 2016

More treasures from Allenda’s hillside garden. Autumn mums remind me of homecoming and the brown and gold tones in these beauties remind me of the University of Wyoming, in particular!

Hibiscus: Flower of the Day, Sept. 21, 2016

The deer misunderstand and think these are hibiscuits, but this one has survived.  Taken in my friend Allenda’s hillside stone garden in Huntsville, Alabama.

Nasturtium: Flower of the Day, Sept 15, 2016

Orange nasturtiums were the first flowers I ever planted myself, from seed, in the apartment I frequented for a year while I got my masters degree. They totally took over the soil by my back door stoop. I loved their cheery hardiness, but for some reason I’ve never planted them again. These are the first nasturtiums I’ve seen since that weren’t in a salad. Love the yellow.  Wish I’d asked for some seed.

Hollyhock: Flower of the Day Sept. 14, 2016

My very first favorite flower.  They grew tall beside our back stoop and every summer, we’d make Hollyhock dolls out of them. I found these outside the “Anne of Green Gables” house on Prince Edward Island.  Click on first photo to enlarge.

Blueberry Bloom: Flower of the Day, Sept 8, 2016

My friend Dianne actually went out of her (our) way to take me into this commercial blueberry field to see how blueberries grow:  low to the ground and sporting these lovely red blooms.  Yes, I picked this one to have a taste.  Sweet and much tinier than it looks here.  Then we fled before the blueberry farmer  could grab his shotgun!

Just remember that I have a blueberry poem to go with this photo.  Remember it?  If not, you can see it HERE.
