Why is this flower called a “copa de oro” even when it is purple instead of gold? Perhaps because of that deep heart that glows like a burning cauldron of gold at its center. These vines have grown to cover my jade plant and my studio. They seem in the one photo to be growing higher than the massive palms. Perhaps they are seeking to grow up to the sun that they imitate at their heart of hearts.

Love this more fragile red variety of heliconia in my friend’s garden in La Manz. Home now where the jacarandas are in full bloom and I’m sneezing and hearing, sort of, through blocked ears. They are beautiful, though. Other than that, nice to be home.

This flower that this is a small detail of was at least 2 feet long and hanging down from a great height on an even longer stalk. Just gorgeous. I’ll show the entire bloom tomorrow.
