In the Shadows
Cold hibiscus tea (called jamaica) is very popular in Mexico. It’s also very good for lowering blood pressure. After suffering the effects of blood pressure medicine for seven months, I’ve chosen to regulate with diet, including oatmeal, green tea and jamaica and it seems to be working! I’m not sure if this hibiscus in my garden is a jamaica variety, but it is the right color for it.
Dried Jamaica flowers for tea. (Pronounced Huh my’ kuh, not like the country.)
Jamaica tea. I added green tea as well. It’s usually served cold in Mexico or as an ingredient in ponche, an alcoholic punch that packs a punch!

I had a yellow and purple Spanish Dancer hibiscus that I shot yesterday all ready to post. Then I saw this red one, just born today, and changed my mind. Here’s a little closer view:

For Cee’s Flower Challenge.
Every day, at least one new gift from each hibiscus bush. Same bush, new flower.

The prompt was to publish a photo in both color and black and white. Luckily, I had just, on a whim, tried converting this hibiscus shot to black and white and was shocked to discover that I liked it better devoid of its gorgeous colors. Here is the site if you’d like to play along: https://bopaula.wordpress.com/2017/05/28/black-white-sunday-after-and-before-y1-05/
I’m also using this for Cee’s Flower of the Day challenge.

I didn’t realize I’d caught a visitor until I started cropping this shot.
