Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Close Ups

DSC09994
I was going for a painterly effect in working with this photo of my dog, Diego.  This is a different shot from the one I did a Warhol technique with a few days ago.  The canvas effect is because the photo was taken through a screen door.  Wish I could paint this well, but alas, everything was accomplished via iPhoto!

Retablo of the Patron Saint of Poets and Musicians

Santa Cecilia is the patron saint of poets and musicians.  This retablo evolved before I did any research on her at all.  I had bought this wonderful oil painting in Peru and just let my mind go in building a retablo for her.  I had no idea who she was–thought she was just another madonna.  When I had finished, an artist friend, Eduardo Xilonsochitl, was at my house painting and building a sculpture for me by the pool and he saw her and said, “Ah, Santa Cecilia.”  I then Googled Saint Cecilia and discovered that all of the symbolism of the retablo did in fact tell the story of her life.  Some things just want to belong together and so it was with her portrait .

WordPress Weekly Photo Prompt: Afloat

DSCF1950

I love how the clouds are afloat in both the sky and the water.

That blue mass to the right of the picture is definitely a “float.” Love the little pink beach bunny, complete with matching trike.

More floats to come tomorrow!  Now I must go float in the pool!!!!

Otreview

Well, the muse didn’t want to conduct an interview today.  Instead, we spent a few minutes simply viewing Diego through the screen door of my studio and then snapped a few pictures and played around with them.  Here are the results: DSC09992DSC09998 DSC09995 DSC09995 - Version 2 DSC09995 - Version 3 DSC09995 - Version 4

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Churches–Jocotepec Church

DSC09977DSC09955DSC09956DSC09991DSC09970DSC09976DSC09972DSC09984DSC09968DSC09980DSC09965
The Jocotepec, Jalisco, church is beautifully constructed of irregularly-shaped stone with smaller stones laid into the grout.  The base of each of the huge palm trees in the courtyard is surrounded by a huge metal or clay pot handcrafted by local artisans.  Although I live in the municipality of Jocotepec, my village is actually the smaller pueblo of San Juan Cosala.

One Word Photo Challenge: Copper

The copper vases were all hand raised in Santa Clara del Cobra, near Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, Mexico.  I couldn’t find my pictures of artisans at work, unfortunately, but perhaps some day they will magically appear.  The woman is a Tarahumara woman from Copper Canyon, where I didn’t see any copper for sale, but the women make incredible pine needle baskets.  The murals are from the ceiling of a church at the bottom of the Canyon.  Seems like Copper Canyon pictures qualified.  I could have taken the Pepsi bottle out of the picture, but it is more authentic with it.  Pepsi actually made it to Mexico (at least my part of Mexico) before Coca Cola did.  I have a story about that.  Perhaps one day… The bracelets are from Santa Clara del Cobra and Africa.

One Word Photo Challenge: Shamrock

DSCF1785 DSCF1865 - Version 2 OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA DSC08892 DSC09208 DSC07280

What fun to look back a few years to look for photos to meet this challenge.  The first one of the bird in the water plants was taken on a trip to Peru several years ago.  This particular picture was taken on a pond near the Amazon.  The picture of the ant was also taken in the rainforest on that trip. The Mayan woman is a fountain that I commissioned and that spilled water into my pool.  Unfortunately a workman tipped it over and broke it a few years ago and the new one I paid for  and commissioned has never appeared.  Nor has the artist I paid to make it.  Sob. The gold colored building is my studio and that little cactus in front of it is now at least 30 feet high. The water lilies are on a pond in the Lake Chapala Society in Ajijic–the town I live near in Mexico, and the green moth flew on to my computer screen a year or so ago and actually had a poem dedicated to it.  It was very tiny and only a little bit less green than this picture depicts it to be.  Thanks for taking this journey through green with me! If you want to see larger versions, just click on the pictures.
