Summer: #4

This may be my favorite poem of all I’ve read this year. Hope you enjoy it alsol!!!

Remember Me

Remember Me

What I imagine I will be remembered by
is probably in the past, my present more taken up by
remembering than by doing.
That energy to create a life seems worn out
so that rising and sorting piles of papers
seems an Everest to scale.

Who knew that we would wear out, too.
Prefer our deskchairs to the dance floor,
our own tables to the favorite gathering place?
We have dulled to pewter,
finest silver that we once were.

Once hatless, ratted and curled,
now we shield ourselves from the sun
with wider brims,
celebrate midnight in solitude,
go the way of civilizations
headed toward their end.

Today’s prompt: Don’t You Forget About Me: Imagine yourself at the end of your life. What sort of legacy will you leave? Describe the lasting effect you want to have on the world, after you’re gone.

Birthday Pyrotechnics–Cee’s Oddball Challenge, Week 27

IMG_1372

This is Cricket, my friend Audrey’s dog.  What is she so mesmerized by?

IMG_1375Yes, it might be my carrot cake birthday cake–

Version 2 but, I think it was probably the candle !!!!

This candle was furnished by the bakery that made the cake.  My friend who brought it to me said it came with a warning not to lean over the cake while she lit it!  (This is what happens when you celebrate your birthday on the Fourth of July!!)  Thanks, Audrey.  It was the only fireworks i saw this Independence Day.  In Mexico, where fireworks are set off every day of the year for one purpose or another: fiestas, weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, national holidays, Saints Days, elections, christenings, first communions, confirmations, church holidays, Day of the Dead–not one was set off for the Fourth of July!!!  (Well, except in my dining room.)

Bugambilias (Bougainvillea): Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge.

 Bougainvillea

IMG_1435IMG_1436
Unfortunately, this beauty is outside my wall on the front of my house where I really haven’t noticed it. This is my very favorite color of bougainvillea (bugambilias in Mexico) and it only stays orange like this when it is in bright sunlight for part of the day.  When I planted it in Boulder Creek, CA, it always turned pink for lack of sunlight in the redwoods.  I need to plant one in my back yard as well so I can see it every day.

WordPress Photo Challenge: Doors

Wow, there have really been a lot of door challenges in the past few months. Here are three “new” shots taken in Ajijic a few weeks ago.
Version 2 IMG_0853

Version 3

This doorway had a huge pickup parked in front of it, which I cropped out but unfortunately, I also had to crop out the beautiful environment.

Version 2

Here is the original photo.

I also did a posting of doors for Cee’s challenge a few weeks ago.  Look HERE if you haven’t seen it before.

Diego’s Morning Lament

What is she doing lying there in bed
when we are out here waiting to be fed?
Even though the rain has stopped and the sun is out,
how can she forget that food is what it’s all about?
She may have her blog to do before she leaves for town,
but can’t she see the ground is wet so we can’t lie down?
Oh sure there is that sheltered place and chairs to lift us up,
but waiting’s not the sort of thing attractive to a pup.
We’ve got the doorways all staked out, I alternate between
The bedroom and dining room, with the taped up screen.

IMG_1386
I admit I made the tears in the screen doors there.
When I jump up excitedly, they just seem to tear.
Now I’m barking at someone passing in the street.
And every bark I have to make, my sister must repeat.

IMG_1388

I’m at the back door, she’s in front. We make a stereo chorus.
Sitting silent as folks pass is just inclined to bore us.
What’s more it drives our human mad. Perhaps she’ll bring us in
and feed us a bit early just to stop the din.
I know that we have our routine and breakfast is at nine,
but if she’d stop and feed us now, our day would start out fine.
Every morning is the same, we wake her up at eight
to let us out for bathroom breaks, then we start the debate
of what the next thing scheduled will turn out to be.
We think the most important thing, once we’ve had our pee
is to have our breakfast–we think it is absurd
that her priority instead is the written word!
We’ve given up our barking but hope she’ll come about.
and realize her food for thought can’t fill our tummies out!

IMG_1391
I’m sure you know the ending to this daily story,
The ending’s never sad or scary, action-filled or gory.
The rising action and the climax mounted with our pleading,
and as you might predict, were finally resolved with our feeding!

IMG_1393
Now our human must be off. We hear her engine zoom.
We hope she’s home for supper so this drama can resume!

Cee’s A Flower Of The Day Challenge: Tabachine

Version 4 Yesterday I showed the seed pod.  Here is the bloom of the Tabachine bush.

THE PROBLEM WITH CONGRESS

This is such a well-written and well-thought-out article that I have to reblog it. It is nonpartisan–just good common sense. Judy

Marilyn Armstrong's avatarSerendipity - Seeking Intelligent Life on Earth

Too many people believe we will get better government by making sure no one in congress gets to stay there for a long time. I don’t know why inexperience would mean better government. In what other field do we prefer raw recruits to veterans? Would you want an inexperienced surgeon? A lawyer fresh out of law school?

Why do you want amateurs making your laws?

Our founding fathers specifically excluded term limits. Their experience under the Articles of Confederation (the document that preceded The Constitution) showed them that good people are not interested in temp jobs for lousy pay in a distant city. Those elected to office walked away from their positions — or never took them up in the first place. There was no future in it.

congress in session

When the Constitution was written, its authors wanted to tempt the best and the brightest into government service. They wanted candidates who

Cee’s Challenge–Flower of the Day: Dwarf Poinciana

IMG_1051Butterflies love these bushes that are smaller versions of the Royal Poinciana, also known in Mexico as Tabachine, Flamboyan or Flame Trees.  I like the sparseness of this detail from the flower-covered bush.
