Royal Poinciana Tree Abloom FOTD, Apr 25, 2020

I can’t seem to get a photo that does this Royal Poinciana tree in the front yard of my house justice. The sun was too bright this morning. I’ll try again this afternoon.

It’s only negative feature is that it is messy when the petals begin to fall. Here they are, above and below. Click on photos to enlarge.

Royal Poinciana: Sunday Trees

IMG_0672

I had to pull off the road to snap this beauty.  I’d passed it at least four times in the past week, thinking every time that I had to photograph it.  This time I did so, shooting against the sun with my iPhone 6 as my beloved Canon is recently deceased and much-mourned.  I actually got 4 or 5 views from different angles that I liked, but I think this is my favorite.  The much larger Royal Poinciana Tree at the front of my house hasn’t come into full bloom so far, perhaps because the electric company had to take a machete to it since it was growing too close to the wires. I think the trees at lower elevations than mine are blooming early this year and very abundantly.  I’ve seen several others I want to capture as well.

For Becca’s Sunday Trees, a bit late this week.

The Day Cracked Open Like an Egg

The Day Cracked Open Like an Egg

The rain falls
fresh as cucumbers
on cobblestones and tiles,
the dust of summer
washed from crevasses
and curves of stone and clay.

The air is cleansed
of the scent of primavera,
jacaranda
and flamboyan trees
and the whole world
breathes easily again.

Clouds dried up
by sunlight,
the silent birds
are flushed
from their covering leaves
and open in chorus

to the booming crack
of cohetes, splitting the air
in celebration
of Saint John the Baptist
who has baptized all
this day.

Primavera and jacaranda are the names of colorful flowering Mexican trees. Flamboyan is the Spanish name for a royal poinciana tree.  Cohetes are very noisy aerial fireworks of the caliber of cherry bombs. This is a rewrite of a poem written two and a half years ago. The prompt today is egg.

Version 2

I planted this Royal Poinciana tree sixteen years ago.  It now shades 1/3 of my front garden as well as a good bit of the street.  These seed pods grow to a couple of feet in length.

Royal Poinciana and Bromeliads: Flower of the Day, May 15, 2016

I love this shot of poinciana blooms backed up by telephone lines swathed in spherical bromeliad plants seeded by the sticky seeds clinging to the feet of birds who perch on them.

Tillandsia Recurvata is the name of this bromeliad often found on telephone lines in my area of Mexico.

Royal Poinciana Trees: Sunday Trees and Cee’s Flower of the Day

Royal Poinciana Trees (Flamboyan or Flame Trees)

I posted closeups and flower clusters of this tree for the past two days and now here is the tree itself. I couldn’t decide which pic I liked the best so I chose a few.  I love this tree.  Messy but gorgeous. Last year the leaf cutter ants pretty much ate all the leaves and flowers  but this year it bloomed in all its glory.

Royal Poinciana Clusters: Flower of the Day, Apr 30, 2016

Yesterday I showed individual Royal Poinciana flowers.  Today I’m showing clusters and tomorrow I’ll show the entire tree.  Some say the African Tulip tree is the most beautiful flowering tree on earth, but I say the Royal Poinciana is.
