Heliconia–Flower of the Day Feb. 8, 2016

Heliconia

This arrangement was done inside a coconut by a flower vendor who sets up in the street right across from the house I rent at the beach.  I bought one to take to the the hostess of a party but had to buy one for myself as well.  I added the tiny coconut “plug” to hide the watering hole.

Short and to the Point

Eat to live or live to eat?
Chewing’s a thing that can’t be beat!

Eschewing chewing can’t be done,
for masticating’s just too fun.

My Day So Far

My Day So FarIMG_2900IMG_2896

My day started with a visit from Ellie, who came to do her weekly cleaning.  While I made us coffee, she washed windows, and just as I sat down with my cup and my computer, she held up this little fellow.   He was so tiny.  Also, unfortunately, he was not alive.  I hope by natural causes and not by Ellie’s hand!

Next on my agenda was my Saturday writing group.  There was a huge group this time–23 by my count.  We’re planning a reading for next week.  Here are two shots of the group.

Next was a party at a new friend’s house on the mountain directly above the bull ring where the rodeo will be held for the next three days.  I met Jan when she came to my house to see my work at the end of the day right after the art walk. She brought pictures of her own work which is fabulous.  She, too, uses found objects.  As you can see by these photos, both her home and her work is unique.  We are planning a materials-gathering expedition together.

Color Your World Fuchsia and Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge

Fuchsia

I had run down the street for two blocks in a long beach coverup quickly thrown over my nightgown when I heard the crazy rodeo parade approaching my house at 11 o’clock at night.  The night before it had gone on from about 7:30 to at least 2 a.m. when I went to bed.  I’d somehow missed it going by when I was dancing at Palapa Joe’s so I didn’t want to miss it tonight.  I was walking back home when I spied these little flowers and I kept bending lower to get them in more detail.  When I looked up I saw this BIG guy who must have been the cook in the palapa restaurant I was standing in front of, taking the picture.  He was sitting in a straight chair in the parking lot—probably out to catch a spare breeze as the night was still hot.  “You can see beauty in a single flower?” he asked me.  When I nodded my head and said, “Mmhmm,” he just smiled and nodded his head.  Such a nice little interchange and nice final human contact for the day.

More about my day will follow.

Blowing Her Own Horn

The promptt: Critical Eye–Write about your blog as though you were a music critic.

IMG_7475

Blowing Her Own Horn

This blogger writes of this and that––
sometimes sharp and sometimes flat.
And though her phrasing is not stiff,
it’s usually devoid of riff.

Her instrument of choice? Her blog.
Her subjects? Modern life, her dog,
photography or 3-D art,
affairs of politics or heart.

World Music would be how I’d class it,
so when you find it, don’t just pass it.
Her themes are most original,
from Pop to Aboriginal.

Lyrics are her major thing––
meant to read instead of sing.
The critic’s lines that she most hates?
“This lady sure ain’t no Tom Waits!”

The Post: Critical Eye–Write about the subject you usually blog about as though you were a music critic.

No Time Like the Present

No Time Like the Present.

The two watches pictured are my two favorite ones.  The first one is my one remaining working Chico’s watch, on top of a pile of bracelets in my jewelry bag. Presently, the turquoise watch is the one I wear every day, not only because I love it but also because it belonged to a friend whose partner gave it to me after she passed away.  I was so touched by this and every time I look at it, I think of both of them.  The “ahora” bracelet is one I have made each time I come to the beach to remind me that the most important time of all is right now.  It helps me to remember to use and treasure each moment. (“Ahora” means “Now” in Spanish.)

Beach Pinup–For Bonnie and Morrie (and Marilyn and Garry)

Beach Pinup

DSCN0245.jpg
I found this little guy rolling around in the sand the morning after Marilyn talked about Bonnie’s grooming and we speculated about how long it would last.  Just wanted you to see Scotties at the beach fall right in line with the pattern!

But, if you remember, no one tops Morrie. If you don’t believe me, look HERE!

More beach doggie pix to follow…Gotta find them and the rodeo parade is due by soon.  Tomorrow, rodeo week begins in La Manzanilla and by what I hear, it is wild.  I’m going to a party up on the mountain above the rodeo ring and will watch with binoculars..

La Playa–Thursday Doors

This is the street entrance of a beach palapa restaurant a few doors down from the house I rent in La Manzanilla each year.

So Many Books

IMG_2833So Many Books

I don’t “do” lunch, I don’t do sport.
They’re things to which I don’t resort.

For time just seems to be the stuff
of which I never have enough.

As I grow older, and years grow tight,
I find that I would rather write.

So, much as I might like to look
at a favorite once-read book––

Jane Austen or a Bronte sister––
time after time, I must resist her.

So many books are being written
that when the reading bug has bitten

and I find the time to view one,
inevitably, I choose a new one
