A Different New Hibiscus

I was awakened at 4:30 a.m. by a pounding-down rain, and since  these flowers might be gone by the morning, I’m glad I took ten minutes off yesterday to lie in the hammock and so saw these triplets on the hibiscus I just planted a little over a week ago. I especially planted it to be seen from my hammock and in the rush of getting ready for the house concert, I might have missed it otherwise. The moral of the story is, take time to swing in your hammock!  There will be rewards. See more views below.

Red Eye

Red Eye

I’m suffering from swollen eyes
that make me appear in the guise
of one who’s had a recent loss
or been upbraided by her boss.
But, much as I appreciate
the words of sympathy you state,
my red eyes, I must confess
are occasioned by much less.
I haven’t cut myself or fallen.
I’m simply suffering from pollen!

Mystery Flower: Flower of the Day, Aug 5, 2018

Unassuming flower, tall invasive plant.
Every time I see you, how I rave and rant.
Little did I know when I planted two or three
that within the year, you’d be the bane of me.
You don’t respond to pulling. Pop right up again
anywhere you want to, not just where you’ve been.

Filling all my borders, invading every bed.
How I wish I’d planted another plant instead.
Sedum is more ground-hugging. Spider plant is nice.
Dusty Miller never turns into a vice.
The one who made a gift of you knew just what to do.
She put up a “For Sale” sign and moved away from you!
