Hibiscus: Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge 8/30/15

Hibiscus

Version 2I love both the veining and the shadow of the pistils and stamen in this shot. The sun was brighter than usual–perhaps an indication of the ending of the rainy season. it hasn’t rained for days and things are starting to look less lush.  Soon it will be wildflower season in the mountains. More photo opportunities!!

Orange Bougainvillea: Cee’s Flower of the Day, 8/27/15

IMG_4252This is my very favorite color of bougainvillea.  It changes in color within the same plant from pinkish to orange to gold.  I believe it depends on the amount of sunlight it gets, but I haven’t really researched it so that is opinion only.

Orange Thunbergia: Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge

Orange Thunbergia: Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge

Hard to believe that yes, this, too, is a thunbergia! I bought this plant years ago and had Pasiano plant it, but it was invisible–obscured by bougainvillea  and ferns.  I thought it had died out long ago, then yesterday I saw it  rising up from the thick undergrowth and twining up this wire at the entrance to my house.  Perfect!

The ramp to my studio is lined with a new crop of hibiscus peeking through the guard railings.

The common name for this purple-accented vining plant is “Wandering Jew” This particular variety has such beautiful little flowers that I had to present them.

Jade Plant: Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge, 8/13/15

Jade Plant

This was my friend Chuy’s plant and every time I look at it, I think of him.  He used to take my friend Betty and me out into the small villages to see precolumbian artifacts and ruins.  IMG_3680I love the buds as much as the flowers–the shading and the tight little promise of delicate white flowers to come.

IMG_3691IMG_3684They are like presents that open themselves.  Every day a new collection of perfect blooms.

IMG_3689IMG_3687 IMG_3685 IMG_3682Impossible to choose a favorite shot, so I’ll be as profuse as the plant and just include them all!
