Cee’s Flower of the Day, 8/12/15

Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge 8/12/15
Today I just wanted to play with a detail of one rather wilted Thunbergia blossom that I snapped a picture of.  I just wanted to use it in a painterly way to see how far the image could be stretched. I’m rather limited in my editing choices, but it was fun.

Still Don’t Know the Name of This Flower! Cee’s Flower of the Day, Aug. 10, 20

IMG_3536I am still trying to remember the name of this flower.  I have a paler variety at home but these beauties are in bloom on the Lake Chapala Society grounds. I love the seed pods as well, so I’m showing one above.  They burst open and spill out the black bee bee seeds, insuring a new generation of plants.

Heartleaf Ice Plant, nee Baby Sunrose, nee Red Apple Ice Plant

IMG_3280 IMG_3277I have loved ice plant ever since I first spied it in CA and brought cuttings back to my greenhouse room in Wyoming.  I have been known to pull off the hiway to pinch off a chain of ice plant.  The beach was another favorite gathering place.  Now I live surrounded by it–growing from planters, along sidewalks and crawling over pumice grinding stones hundreds of years old.

Tulip Tree with Kiskadee : Cee’s Flower of the Day, August 5, 2015

Tulip Tree with Kiskadee

IMG_3216
This fellow was at the opposite end of the lot at the top of a giant African Tulip Tree.  Thanks to the wonderful zoom on my new Canon camera, I captured him!  Thanks, Canon.

IMG_3222He was catching bugs as they went by.  You can see one in his beak in this photo.

IMG_3223Here you can see him going after yet another fly.  It was an almost constant repetition of a theme.  A great hunting ground!  My shutter speed wasn’t fast enough to freeze his movement, but at least the flowers were in focus!

IMG_3230And then he flew away! He always returned, but my mind turned to other things, and two days later I had this nice surprise on my camera when I finally got around to downloading the pictures from my camera.  Another day’s challenge met!!!

(In Mexico, the name for the African Tulip Tree is Tulipan.  It is also sometimes called a Fountain Tree.)
