The Neighborhood–A Flower a Day, Mar 19, 2016

The most wonderful thing about bougainvilleas is often their surroundings.  They can obscure faults, serve as security and also as home to many creatures: possums, lizards, iguanas and my own cat.  Here are some beautiful places that bougainvilleas exist in La Manzanilla:

Bougainvilleas––Flower of the day Mar 16, 2016

The wild tumble of bougainvillea actually forms a wall in my friend’s open-walled house.  She lives about as outside as it is possible to live without actually living outside.  Later on this week, I’ll show you her house, studio and art.  I love the wildness of these intermixed vines, the shadows and the colors. Here’s another one for you, Cee.

That’s Just Cheating! Flower of the Day, Jan 27, 2016

That’s Just Cheating!

Yes, sure.  I’ve done a lot of playing around with this image but I don’t consider that cheating, do you?  So what could it be that I’ve done that is slightly unethical?

If it isn’t perfectly obvious from this unedited original shot,

then perhaps it will be in this closeup.  Honest, folks, I didn’t notice when I took the original shot.  I was working fast and just going up and down the street taking shots of flowers.  It wasn’t until I got into the eidting phase that I notice what was wrong with this particular bunch of flowers!!! Cee’s said it before. I need to slow down. Perhaps after the art walk!

Something about this Lily with its fading blooms intrigued me.  For so long, I sought to find perfect blooms, but lately I’ve been fascinated by the beauty found in imperfection.

(The century plant blooms once–for a very long time–and then dies, but another plant always springs up in its place.)
