Tuesdays of Texture, Week 46 of 2016

img_8855

The sun writes twice on the stone.  First by encouraging the small tufts of grass to invade the tight corridors between the inlay, then with her own light. Texture upon texture.

Today’s Halloween prompt word was cauldron.  This would have been a hard one if I hadn’t been cooking two big pots of chili tonight.

Leftover Treating: JNW’s Halloween Challenge, Treats

It’s the day after Halloween, and for some reason, I have re-donned my Halloween costume, which was the unlikely choice of a Cigarette Girl!  Was this my mother’s idea? Mine? Seems a strange choice and I certainly hope the real Cigarette girls of this eras wore longer skirts or more interesting underwear.  At any rate, I can’t remember whether my sister caught me in this pose or staged it.  I think I was going for the caramels in the center of the table. Like spreading seed for birds.

Oh, wait!  Now I can see that those were Halloween cookies in the shape of pumpkins that I was going after.  My sister Betty, 11 years older than me, had a costume party in the basement the night before and I think I was dipping into leftover refreshments.

Of course, the prompt word was “Treat.”

Zombie Apples

Somehow, these apples just didn’t look all that fresh to me.

Lake Walk with Frida: Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge, 2016, Week 40

Last week I showed you Little Duck’s Adventure.  This week I want to show you Frida’s. I’ve decided try try to take one of the dogs for a walk every day. Frida got the first turn and did great. After a scare last week when we thought we were going to have to put her down, the miracles of modern medicine saved the day, and she’s like a young dog again. The day after the big rains, we went down to inspect the lake along the malecon. (Click on photos to enlarge and read captions.)

Little Duck’s Further Adventures: Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge 2016, Week 38, WordPress One Word Photo Challenge–Quest

Little Duck’s Further Adventures

It’s been awhile since we have heard from Little Duck.  As you know, since he is of limited vocabulary, he usually shares his adventures via photographs, and the same is true of adventures he has shared with us since I’ve been visiting him in Missouri.  When last we saw Little Duck, he was sitting on the dash of Forgottenman’s car, awaiting my arrival. Since then, as you will soon see, he has been very busy.

The WordPress photo prompt this week was “Quest.”

I think this also qualifies for Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge:  https://ceenphotography.com/2016/09/23/cees-odd-ball-photo-challenge-2016-week-38/

Carrying On

Carrying On

Were they carrying? That’s the buzz.
Was she carrying? Likely was.
In nine months we’ll know for sure,
but we’ll never know if the brothers were.

He carried the play. His voice carried well.
The truth of it they’re sure to tell
as the paper carrier carries the news––
the comics, headlines, play reviews.

Three into ten and carry one.
In long division, that’s half the fun.
Carry on and carry through,
for no one else will carry you.

Those cutter ants you love to hate
can carry 100 times their weight.
We pack 30 pounds in carry-on cases,
carry-out burgers from carry-out places.

Half our lives we carry on.
Then when we are dead and gone,
removed from all this carrying fuss,
what friends are left will carry us.

It is probably obvious that the prompt word today was “Carry.”
