Red Rose Ala Mode: Flower of the Day, July 6, 2016

This gorgeous rose was on our table at the ice cream parlor where we met my niece Cindy’s cousin Kent who is directing a play at the Sheridan Drama Festival.  Big coincidence as he is from NYC where the play his wife is in, “The Humans,” just won a Tony. Nice guy.  Yummy ice cream–and this beautiful flower.

Flower of the Day, July 3, 2016

Water-logged or sun-dried, this hibiscus is one of my favorite sights of the day.

“Buds” Flowers of the Day, July 1, 2016

This is one of the flower boxes at the Budweiser Brewery in Ft. Collins, CO that we toured today. The clydesdales were out on tour, but the flowers were present and out in full force. These were my favorites, but elsewhere there were day lilies, alyssum, cannas, roses and a number of other flowers.

Yellow Hibiscus: Flower of the Day, June 29, 2016

Today when I went out to the front garden, the hibiscus bush had so many blooms, each at a different stage of development, that it looked like a staged demonstration for a class in plant development.  The blooms at every stage were so uniquely beautiful, that I took a few dozen shots, almot all of which turned out.  Since I’m going to be traveling over the next few days and I’m not sure how many flowers I’ll see, I’ve decided to show you one or two of the blooms a day for the next few days.  They won’t be in any particular order––just what catches my eye each day as I dip into my cache of beauties.

Strange Bedfellows: Garlic Blossoms and Aloe. Flower of the Day, June 28, 2016

DSCN1524

Here is another unlikely bouquet.  This time it is aloe and garlic blossoms.  My semi-wild garden creates some strange bedfellows.

Buttercup, Buttercup: Flower of the Day, June 26, 2016

I found this little buttercup in the San Juan Bautiste procession the other day.  If you’ve had sufficient hibiscus and bougainvillea from me, perhaps you’ll appreciate the switch:

Cannas Going to Seed: Flower of the Day, June 25, 2016

IMG_8733

I’m always fascinated by the different stages of budding, flowering and seeding.  I think this stage of my canna lilies is beautiful––both the subtle pastel greens and rose and the nubby seed receptacles that look like one of those soft rubber nubby squeeze balls they sell as kids’ toys or relaxing aids for adults.
