Water Sport: Oddball challenge, 2016, Week 20

IMG_1866

I love this photo and I’ve been saving it  because it has never quite fit in to any challenge..Then it occurred to me that this is the purpose of the odd-ball challenge! I love it because of everything that is going on.  The little boy “shooting” his brother with water ammo, the stance of the little girl, the fishing poles of the fishermen repeating the lines of the water guns and the other swimmers and fisherman in the surf.  One thing I love about the beach is that there is always something going on––a fact perfectly represented by this photo.

H is for Horse: 26 Weeks Letter Challenge & Cee’s Oddball Challenge, 2016, Week 19

Yes, folks, now you have seen it all! This actually is a life-sized replica of a horse—made into a lamp!! If it is zany, one-of-a-kind or in multiples, you can find it at Galeria el Triunfo in Guadalajara—along with thousands of other unique items from canes with built-in flashlights to a diving bell made into a walk-in bar!

26 Weeks Letter Challenge: “H”

Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge, 2016, Week 12

I do not like oysters or seafood or fish of any kind, but I love this detail from a plate of oysters a visiting friend had delivered to my porch by a seaside vendor who walks up and down the beach taking orders and then delivers, complete with hot sauce and limes.  I tried straightening this, but for some reason I like the slightly off-kilter bottom edge, so I restored it.  I’ll try to find an earlier pic of the vendor that I published a few years ago.  It is one of my favorites.  If you’ve been watching my blog for awhile, you’ll recognize him!

Remember this little guy?  I’ve been watching him flounce up the beach at the heels of his master for 5 or 6 years now.  I love how only one of his feet is on the ground, and at times all four are airbound…And his tongue is always out!  The foot in front of him belongs to the oyster vendor.  This is the only picture of him I could find on this computer.

Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge 2016 week 11

One of my favorite restaurants, Guacamole’s, was damaged by Hurricane Patricia and has not reopened in the two months I’ve been here in La Manzanilla.  For the first few weeks, as men worked on restoring the building, this fellow was viewable through the gate.  Seems like everyone and everything had to buckle up for the reconstruction effort!

Painting with Photos: Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge, 2016, Week 9

                                                              Painting with Photos

Sometimes when I have a photograph I really can’t use, either because of the subject or the aesthetics, I Just play around with the editing tools.  In this case, I came up with two abstract paintings gleaned from the plume and the gills of a roosterfish that a fisherman had left lying on the beach.

Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge 2016 Week 3

IMG_1402

This is a scene from a dry lake bed that stretches for many miles on either side of the road that leads from Ajijic to La Manzanilla.  During part of the year, the lake bed might be filled with water, although it is very shallow.  At other times, it is dry and frequent dust devils and small tornadoes raise the dust in twisting columns.  I’ve driven through it literally surrounded by dozens of these little twisters.  This sign, “Con Tolvanera, Encienda Sus Luces” means “During Dust Storms, Turn on Your Lights.”  I don’t know why the picture tickles my fancy, but it does.  So, it’s my oddball for today.

Family Portrait: Odd Ball Photo 2016 Week 1

Family Portrait

I very much wanted to get a nice portrait of this darling family at our club New Years party, and the mom seemed perfectly happy to oblige. The lighting wasn’t good, so I assumed there would be some problems, but . . .

IMG_0926

IMG_0927the kids seemed to have a different idea about what constituted a good family portrait.

IMG_0928When their older brother zoomed in to join them, I assumed he would instill a little family order.  Wrong!  The mom still seemed oblivious to what was going on behind her back and to her right.

IMG_0929
So big brother joined in the fun.  Mom still cute, isn’t she? And innocent.

IMG_0930
Finally, mom cottoned on to what was happening and tried to restore order.

But I think she’s finally given up, don’t you?

Oddball Xmas: Cee’s Oddball Challenge

Oddball Xmas

IMG_0664

You saw part of this unusual choice of costume in my Xmas post, but I saved the  photo of the entire ensemble for Cee’s Oddball Challenge.  If this doesn’t qualify, I don’t know what will! My brother-in-law bought the suit for a joke.  We added the glasses, cap and antlers. I think you’ll agree that he qualifies as a good sport!!!  I’m wondering what he will come up with for New Years!!!
