Ask First!

I don’t drink milk and don’t drink tea.
Water and coffee do for me.

When it comes to booze, I’m picky.
Tequila’s fine but Scotch is icky.

Pineapple juice or orange is fine,
but tomato’s out of line,

so bloody Marys aren’t the thing
that I’d like for you to bring

to wet my tongue and slake my thirst.
I request you ask me first.

For SOCS, the prompt word is “drink.”

Judy’s Addictive Sangria Brew

Judy’s Addictive Sangria Brew

Frozen strawberries, eight or ten––
find a pitcher, toss them in.
Pour Tequila, just to cover.
(Not too much, Tequila-lover!)
Next, Sangria, Kirkland brand.
a third way up the pitcher is grand.

Then orange juice in equal measure,
and then to guarantee your pleasure,
7-Up to fill the place
that formerly was only space.
Let it sit, then stir it up
and pour it in a pre-iced cup.

Guaranteed to please each guest,
but the way I like to serve it best?
Frozen strawberries in lieu of ice.
And the presentation’s especially nice
with bamboo skewer to stab the berry.
Is this drink addictive? Very!!!!

I learned how to make this sangria at a friend’s house in Wyoming and carried it back to Mexico with me where it has become an addiction among my friends, with only one or two hard-core white wine-drinkers abstaining,

Looks like I missed the cutoff date, but this was written for the  dVerse Poets: Recipes in Rhyme

Weekly Prompts Weekend Challenge: Beverage

Carlos Jr’s favorite drink, “La Bandera” or flag.. since it is the colors of the Mexican flag. The salted glass is sangrita, the white or clear one is tequila and the green is key lime juice. He alternated sips of each.

I messed up on this one big time.  First, after going through six years of photos on my Mac Photos file to make a list of these examples of hot or cold drinks,  I got them all entered in my blog and when I tried to remove one, I erased them all—losing a good hour of work it took me to locate them in my WP media file.  Then I decided to just enter them all again, since I had a list of them, and when I finished I realized that this was a black and white challenge.  Maybe I need to retire.  Anyway, back to the drawing board.  I’m going to go ahead and post this one and then go back and convert them all to black and white to enter into Cee’s challenge.

Twenty-seven minutes later: I’ve converted all the photos to black and white and reposted for Cee’s Black and White challenge, so if you are curious about how these would all look in black and white, HERE is the other version.

Rootie Tootie Margarootie Recipe

Screen Shot 2018-05-04 at 12.59.48 AM

Just discovered I’ve never actually put up the promised recipe for a Rootie Tootie Margarootie.  Here it is, as requested by Calen Sariel:

Rootie Tootie Margarootie Recipe: I’m not sure about amounts as I do it by taste, but I’m making these for a party Sunday so I will measure:

1/2 Cup Tequila
1 to 2  Cups Squirt (Make with one cup and if it tastes too strong, add another)
1/4 Cup Raspberry liqueur (Chambord or Antigua)
1 Cup Cranberry Juice
3 cups Ice

Mix in blender until slushy. You should make in batches as if you put more than this in blender at one time, the Squirt foams up and spills over. Taste and alter amounts to your taste.

Make more batches and store in freezer for an hour or so before serving so it is really slushy.  Stir and serve.  (In your freezer might only require 1/2 hour, depending on how cold you keep it.)

If you wish, mix sugar with a smaller amount of salt, rub lime around rim of glass and dip rim of glass into the sugar/salt solution.  Carefully fill with the Rootie Tootie Margarootie which should have the consistency of a slushie.

If it isn’t delicious, start adding more of each ingredient until it tastes good to you, then send me your recipe!  Adding more cranberry juice makes it sweeter and stronger tasting.

Rum Dumb

Rum Dumb

Beer is tacky. Wine’s a joke.
My preference is Rum and Coke.
Squeeze a lime in. Take a sip
to cool your throat and wet your lip.
My favorite form of inebriation
is always Cuba Libre-ation.
