The flower garden around the house used as a backdrop in “American Gothic” by Grant Wood has definitely gone into its autumn mode. Click on photos to enlarge.

More treasures from Allenda’s hillside garden. Autumn mums remind me of homecoming and the brown and gold tones in these beauties remind me of the University of Wyoming, in particular!

To my eye, this bedraggled and pockmarked echinacea bloom has a beauty all its own.

Orange nasturtiums were the first flowers I ever planted myself, from seed, in the apartment I frequented for a year while I got my masters degree. They totally took over the soil by my back door stoop. I loved their cheery hardiness, but for some reason I’ve never planted them again. These are the first nasturtiums I’ve seen since that weren’t in a salad. Love the yellow. Wish I’d asked for some seed.

My very first favorite flower. They grew tall beside our back stoop and every summer, we’d make Hollyhock dolls out of them. I found these outside the “Anne of Green Gables” house on Prince Edward Island. Click on first photo to enlarge.

My friend Dianne actually went out of her (our) way to take me into this commercial blueberry field to see how blueberries grow: low to the ground and sporting these lovely red blooms. Yes, I picked this one to have a taste. Sweet and much tinier than it looks here. Then we fled before the blueberry farmer could grab his shotgun!

Just remember that I have a blueberry poem to go with this photo. Remember it? If not, you can see it HERE.

Thanks, Christine Goodnough, for jogging my memory re/ the name of this beauty from my friend Patty’s garden in Wyoming. I knew an animal was involved in its name, but couldn’t for the life remember what it was until you solved the mystery.

Spotted this lovely arrangement in the lobby of the Sheridan Inn in Sheridan, Wyoming. Watch for more photos of this one hundred plus year old hotel still in operation on my “Thursday Doors” post on Thursday.
