Shaving Brush Tree, FOTD, June 20, 2019

IMG_2725

Once again, Bob saved the day by identifying this flower.  It is a pseudobombax ellipticum! (Commonly known as a shaving brush tree bloom.) If you have your own mystery flower of plant, try letting Bob come to the rescue. He is the pit bull of flower identification.  Find him here:  Love’s flower identification site.

That Flower, That Tree: (Flowering Schefflera Tree) Sunday Trees and Flower of the Day, Sep 9, 2017

I’ve been trying to get a good shot of this tree for sixteen years, but it grows so huge that it’s impossible to get a good closeup  shot of the blooms while getting the entire tree as well.  A few months ago, I did a shoot of different stages of the flowers on a bush-sized tree at a local car wash, but a few days ago I noticed that it was in full bloom and at a perfect stage and size to capture the entire tree.  Recently, I also  found out the name of this tree after years of inquiry—the flowering Schefflera or Octopus Tree.

Golden Shower (Lluvia de Oro): Flower of the Day, June 14, 2016

Stolen Flowers

I didn’t actually steal these flowers.  I merely photographed them as I drove down the hill to buy bags of dirt for some replanting . I actually drove past, then stopped, backed up and parked so I could take these shots.  Certainly better filled out  than my two strands.

Golden Shower Tree––Flower of the Day May 29, 2016

I couldn’t reisist three more shots of the “Lluvia de Oro” or Golden Shower Tree.  The sun was right today and they are so exotic up close.

Royal Poinciana Trees: Sunday Trees and Cee’s Flower of the Day

Royal Poinciana Trees (Flamboyan or Flame Trees)

I posted closeups and flower clusters of this tree for the past two days and now here is the tree itself. I couldn’t decide which pic I liked the best so I chose a few.  I love this tree.  Messy but gorgeous. Last year the leaf cutter ants pretty much ate all the leaves and flowers  but this year it bloomed in all its glory.

Royal Poinciana Clusters: Flower of the Day, Apr 30, 2016

Yesterday I showed individual Royal Poinciana flowers.  Today I’m showing clusters and tomorrow I’ll show the entire tree.  Some say the African Tulip tree is the most beautiful flowering tree on earth, but I say the Royal Poinciana is.

Flower of the Day, Apr 24, 2016

IMG_4861Another one I used to know the name of but no longer do.  If anyone does, I’ll add the name if you clue me in.  So little time.. so many unidentified plants!  I loved the sky as much as I did the flowers on this day…I may paint my house this color!

Do not miss seeing this flower as well.  It is stunning!!!  https://ceenphotography.com/2016/04/23/flower-of-the-day-april-24-2016-bearded-iris/

Pseudobombax Ellipticum, or Shavingbrush Tree––Flower of the Day 2016, Apr 11

I saw this tree in full bloom as I was driving along the carretera and promptly pulled over to photograph it.  You’ll see more of it in the future.  It was impossible to get a bad shot of this tree!  Thanks, Judy Reeves, for identifying it for me.  What a poetic name.  I should have guessed its name!!!!

Primavera in Bloom: A Flower a Day 3-20-16

Today, the park along the Ajijic malecon  was  full of activity, people, birds, Micheladas and these beautiful Primavera trees in bloom. More about the people later. It is 4:15 a.m. and the LOUD Music half a block away above me has finally stopped.  Yes, it kept me awake but it sounded like a huge family party.  Everyone was singing along with the music and having a wonderful time.  During Semana Santa, the week leading up to Easter, we can expect more and more people to flood into town and more and more loud celebrations.

Happy Spring!!!
