Shine Through

Light is at its best when coming up against its opposite. Perhaps this is the secret of the world—that greatest secret that is the hardest to understand.

Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge, Shine

La Manzanilla: Local for a Quarter Year

After many years of going to La Manz in doses of one week to two months, I’m committing to three months this year. I think that makes me a local, or perhaps an apprentice local. I love this little town on the west coast of Mexico, a few hours below Puerto Vallarta.

The photo prompt this week is “Local.”

Sweet Little Pain

The prompt word for the weekly photo challenge was “Nostalgia.’

All of these photos were taken on Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Little Duck’s Further Adventures: Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge 2016, Week 38, WordPress One Word Photo Challenge–Quest

Little Duck’s Further Adventures

It’s been awhile since we have heard from Little Duck.  As you know, since he is of limited vocabulary, he usually shares his adventures via photographs, and the same is true of adventures he has shared with us since I’ve been visiting him in Missouri.  When last we saw Little Duck, he was sitting on the dash of Forgottenman’s car, awaiting my arrival. Since then, as you will soon see, he has been very busy.

Edges: Weekly Photo Challenge

Want to see the photos better?  Click on the first one to view the gallery in a larger format.

Edges on windowframes, shadows and cages.
Edges of different sizes and ages.
Edges like razors and some softly curled.
Edge of your roof and edge of the world.
Edges to rise above, fall from and go through.
Edges to walk on and fly with and row through.
The edges of water lined with fine foam,
but the very best edges are those we call home.

You may have already guessed that the prompt word today is “Edge.”

Rare Bird

My gardener’s youngest son Ishmael is a rare bird. First of all, he’s rarely seen, as he is extremely shy. He has also in the past been frightened of my dogs, me, all of the kids at school, his teacher and anyone who isn’t a parent or brother. Over the past year, I’ve been trying to curry his favor with coloring books, toys, balls to throw for the dog and most recently, an Easter Egg hunt that involved both candy and toys.  At first he was shy, hiding behind his parents, but by the end of the time he was here he was rushing around the front garden trying to fill his basket. These photos record some former times, including his first approach to Diego–a very rare occasion! (Click to enlarge photos.)

The photo prompt this week was “Rare.”

Fun!

This is my niece Lainie who is a comedian and lots of fun.  Can’t you just tell that from this photo?

Narrow Illusion

IMG_1645IMG_1651

In the wide prairies of South Dakota, the only narrow to be found is the narrowing of the road in the distance.  It is a bit like perpetually driving into an invisible tunnel.

Cherry on Top: WordPress Weekly Photo Prompt

The intent of the prompt is to publish a photo of something that tops off an experience and makes it special.  It doesn’t have to specifically be a cherry.

These little guys were definitely the icing on the cake when they arrived to visit a few days after I celebrated my birthday in Sheridan, Wyoming.  They came to visit their grandmother, one of my best and oldest friends, but because I live in Mexico and they don’t live in the town where I visit her and my sister most years, I’d never met them before. They came running in and said, “Our dad says you are his godmother.  Does that mean you are our great godmother?”  I said, “No, that makes me your ‘fairly’ godmother.”  And it went on from there. They are adorable and smart as you can probably see from this photo.  The one on the right was getting a buzz haircut from his dad when his dad decided it looked cool to leave a little ducktail in front, and I think he was right. It is adorable. At one point, the last day they were in Sheridan, we all went to the Holiday Inn for breakfast. There was a wishing pool and after the boys threw in their money, Ducktail came and reported he’d gotten his wish. He told us what it was and I said, “Well, that was my wish, too!”  He looked at me quizzically and said, “Oh, did you wish that you were younger?” Ha. Think he missed the part about our wishes being the same.

This is what the icing on my birthday cake looked like:

The photo that is here rendered in frosting was of me blowing out the candles on my birthday cake at age three.                                                                                                jdbphoto

And here it is three days later. Yech! Glad I have aged a bit better. The cake has fewer wrinkles but at least I haven’t turned green and broken out in boils!!                   jdbphoto
