The prompt today was “farce.”

Lake Taco and Car Wash is onto a good idea. As cars wait their turn to be washed, their owners can dine in the attached palapa restaurant. They had some good offerings for the main course and if the specials of the day, seen here, didn’t tickle our palates, we could always order off the menu. We balked, however, at the dessert:

The resident friendly cat rubbed up against our legs, assuring us she could finish any dessert leftovers, but still we demurred. “Then how about the shrimp burger?” she purred. It was beef hamburgers for us, all around. We skipped dessert.

I may be allergic to roses, but thank goodness I am not allergic to colors.
Cee’s new prompt asks for a photo displaying one color only.

These succulent hen and chick blooms seem to be blushing. It is a very hearty and easily transplanted succulent, thus its scientific name “sempervivum,” which means “lives forever.”

For Cee’s flower prompt.
On the Precipice
Toes peeking over, eyes cast away.
I do not want to look today.
Time enough when time is over.
It’s true I’ve ceased to be a rover,
for though I’ve seen the Nile’s beginning,
I can feel my chances thinning
for ever standing at its end.
I’m feeling too close to the bend
to chance the risks travel might take.
I’m living less for living’s sake.
My house and garden fill my world,
increasingly. My life is curled
fast on itself more frequently.
“Becoming” has turned into “be.”
It is not giving up on life
so much as drawing back from strife.
Surely, now’s the time for this,
as I approach that big abyss.
Those of faith are sure they know
the glorious ending to this show
we’ve seen via nature’s invitation;
and yet the minister’s oration
you must admit, is speculation.
That’s why as I stand toe-to-air,
I have no need to see what’s there.
Whatever’s written far below,
it’s where at last, we all will go.
The prompt word today was “precipice.”
Hesitation
As I recite my Sunday Psalms,
two butterflies alight like balms
upon the leper’s outstretched palms.
Thus nature intervenes and calms
the remainder of my qualms.
I fill the beggar’s hands with alms.
The prompt word today was “qualm.”
If you haven’t seen Chie Hitotsuyama’s art, then it is time you did. Absolutely fantastic.

The travel theme this week is the word “cream.” From whipped cream to creamy feathers to the “walking stick” insect on the creamy baseball cap to the cream-colored clay that depicts a Huichol birth scene, the mosaic of photos below attempt to meet the theme.

Night Chorus
Village dogs out in the dark—
first they howl, and then they bark.
A filling moon spills from a cloud.
That’s when the dogs become so loud.
Each of my dogs is in his bed,
though they’d rather be outside instead.
My dogs and I silent and still
as outside voices speak their will.
The little burro brays consent.
Wind in the palms nodding assent.
I have my qualms about leaving Morrie and Diego out all night to converse with the neighbors. I spoil all their fun!!!
