Last Flower on the Plumeria Tree: FOTD, Oct 22, 2023

This is the last plumeria bloom of the season, folks. Somehow, rendered lovelier by its solo status.  Yesterday it was there. By Christmas, the tree will be totally devoid of leaves as well. So goes nature. I’ll see if Oscar will string it with garlands for me again this year.

EUPHORBIA BRACTEATA: FOTD OCT 21, 2023

Commonly known as slipper plant, this euphorbia is near my hammock so I pass it ever time I go down to my “second office.” There is electricity to plug my computer in if need be, so it is a way to get out of the house and still keep “working.” (Playing.) There are usually one to three dogs on my lap or by my side  in the hammock as well, so it’s a full office.

In Contrast…For Lens Artists Challenge

Contrast

Sun or moon and smooth or rough,
old or young and clothed or buff––
opposites contrast each other––
tough or easy, breathe or smother.
Shadows can be made with light,
though sun is opposite of night.
Sarcasm depends on this:
words that praise, but really diss.
Life consists of contrasts that
give yin for yang and tit for tat.
If you can’t find a life to fit,
just change into its opposite!
Reach for the hidden, release the found.
Contrasts make the world go round.

Me and My Shadow, for Wordless Wednesday

Thanks, Hugh, for suggesting the Shadow theme!!

A Day at the Beach

A Day at the Beach

My hairdo is unraveling in the ocean’s spray,
and the men are talking fishing so I haven’t much to say.
I do not know their language and the sea breeze makes me cough.
My skin’s at risk in sunlight, but a stone-throw’s distance off,
in the shelter of a palm tree, I find shade, at least,
open up my backpack and partake in a small feast.

Then after I have eaten, when the sun has reached the rim
of the far horizon, I finally have a swim.
For once the sun’s not flaming, it creates a lovely glow,
sinking toward the ocean and vanishing below.
The sea has pleased the fishermen all day, cast after cast,
but as the sun sinks into it, it’s pleasing me, at last.
