The Great Reveal

When it comes to Christmas gifts, I hope you get a passel
and you find unwrapping them to be a task most facile.
Every bound up package, may it be in bow or tassel,
a rip-roaring pleasure instead of any hassle.

And though we are adults now, let them be mementos of
all those bygone childhood years that all of us just love
to retain with pleasure in our memories—
how we would  prod and finger gifts and ogle, guess and squeeze.

Then, finally, on Christmas morn, we’d wake up like a shot,
barreling downstairs at dawn to see what we had got.
Before the church bells drew us out, we had to do our duty
and reveal just what Santa had left us for our booty.

Thus however much we’ve tried maturity to hone,
at Christmas time we find how very little we have grown.
As we untie ribbons, rip off paper, pry off lids,
we discover in our hearts that all of us are kids!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to All!!!!

Prompts today are gift, memento, bells, facile and shot.

“Out of the Whirl” Wordle 532, The Sunday Whirl

Out of the Whirl

As you linger, drifting, regardless of the fray,
flow along and follow the currents of the day,
do other rasher travelers pass you in a hurry,
trembling that they may be late, foreheads  furled in worry?

Those who are part of the chase create a draft in passing.
Some mumble their apologies while others pass by sassing.
Do you stand as in a spell, marveling at the chase?
Do you linger at the turnstiles, craving a slower pace?

When was it that our time became a thing we cannot waste?
What edict declared  lives must be endeavors of such haste?
Was there a sign from heaven that said there was a need
for lives to be conducted at such a breakneck speed?

“Slow down and live” the roadsigns say—advice that’s good for all.
“Take time to smell the roses” is also a good call.
What we gain with all this speed won’t make up for the cost.
For every second gained in speed, in fact, a second’s lost.

In your life the getting there should be half of the fun.
If time is only something you are hoping will be done,
you’re missing out on half the point, and it is a crime.
Some of the greatest joys in life may come while wasting time!

An Innovative Approach to Weed Control

My former spouse seems not to feel a similar elation
to what I have been feeling ever since our separation.

He feels invested in the gardening and wants to poke and sow.
Every other day he comes and says he has to mow.

It’s a bit of an enigma, for this farming bent is new,
and I can’t corroborate what’s causing him to do

all these acts of digging and furrowing and tilling.
If he wants me to reciprocate, I fear am not willing.

But my garden sure has flourished since I asked my spouse to go,
which goes to show I really should have done it long ago!

Prompt words today are enigma, corroborate, poke, reciprocal and separation.

Literally Brick Red!!

Forgottenman has access as an administrator on my blog. As I slept, he was obsessively busy trying to find legitimate brick red in my photos file. This is what he came up with: Thanks, Dux, for keeping me literal.

Color Your World Prompt

Lactose Intolerant

Lactose Intolerant

If you’re intent on becoming maternal,
I’m hopeful your plans include turning nocturnal.
For babies claim most of your time, night and day,
but their favorite time to entice you to play
is when you have finally  collapsed in a heap
and obtained REM sleep, so blessedly deep
that you swim towards the surface with collections of dreams
that shed off you like water as you waken to screams
of your recent dependent who’s hungry and wet,
needing all the attention that there is to get.
Since you went through the nausea and gained all the girth,
acquired all the stretch marks and endured the birth,
though you love this dear bundle with skin smooth as silk,
how you wish that their father could provide the milk!
Yet you search for your robe and for your other shoe,
for that wholesome nutrition provider is you!

Prompt words today are hopeful, claim, nocturnal, wholesome and collection. Image by Jenna Norman on Unsplash.

December Leftovers: Lens Artists Challenge 178 (Our Choice of Themes)

Please click on photos to enlarge.

There has been a lot going on besides Xmas this month. Here are some photos that didn’t seem to fit in anywhere else. I made a new friend in the pool that unfortunately I rescued too late. I bought wonderful crocheted gifts and witnessed a novel display at the massage booth in the local street fair,  wore my toe socks for a month straight, (Well, I alternated between 5 different pair), Deysie got a new electric bike and drove it out to help me tackle my studio. I decorated the tree with past memories, admired the beautiful tool display in a local gallery, captured a garden godess and a bedroom sprite, saw the light display for the Virgin of Guadalupe festival in San Juan Cosala and accomplished a hundred other pressing tasks with committing them to photos.
