Leavening

I’m not sure who should be blamed
for the fact that I’ve been tamed.
It was no parent nor any spouse
that made me tranquil as a mouse.
Thinking it out, I must admit,
no human was the cause of it.
The thing that leavened my aggression
was simply time’s lengthy progression.

The prompt today was tame.

Baby Sun Rose: Flower of the Day: Oct 9, 2017

Is part of the reason they call this plant baby sun rose because of its tendency to crawl all over its neighbors? I especially love how they have invaded this agave plant.

Superficial

Rating Dating

Some men seem to run their dating game like it’s a race,
whereas for their date this doesn’t seem to be the case.
If so, I must advise the guy to try to slow his pace
lest the lady feel that she must slow him down with mace!

She may be superficial, while he is way too smart;
or he may adore motocross while she’s a fan of art.
She’s olfactorily sensitive and he just let a fart.
Such opposites do not attract in the affairs of heart.

In chick flicks when a date goes wrong, it is always funny.
She runs into a former love or he runs out of money.
But no matter how things go, the endings are all sunny.
By the credits, she is “dear” and he is always “honey.”

In real life, when it comes to love, I prefer to view it.
Much easier to say you want it than to really do it.
The problem is if either of you chooses to eschew it,
then the other one of you must admit that they blew it.

So for the couplet, I’ll admit that yes, true love is groovy;
but when it comes to dating, I’ll just settle for the movie!!!

The prompt today was superficial. This is a rewrite of an earlier poem from two years ago.

Pink isn’t my favorite color, but I love this pink hibiscus I spotted in my friend Lety’s garden yesterday.

Seven Day Challenge Redux

Aha!!  Having posted my seventh photo yesterday, I am no longer bound by the rules, so today I’m going to publish a collage of the seven photos and tell you how they relate to my life.  Hopefully the Gods of Photo Challenges will not take occasion to this act.  Here goes:

(If you click on the first photo, you can see them in a larger form and read the explanations of why I chose them to reflect my life.)

Cyber Romance

Cyber Romance

Our affection is elastic, stretching from here to there.
My nightly kisses reach you through a thousand miles of air.
We have a date at 2 p.m., another at eleven
or twelve or one. It matters not. This freedom is just heaven.
No scrambling for a lipstick. No reaching for our combs.
No need to leave the comforts of our cozy homes.
No reservations must be made, no flowers to be bought.
No rashes to be suffered and no colds to be caught.
We are so safe here sheltered each in our favorite place
without expending energy meeting face-to-face.
It is a cyber romance—the newest thing to do.
And instead of having babies—one, perhaps, or two,
emojis I will give thee—as many as you please.
Life is so much simpler  lived out via screens and keys.

The prompt today was elastic.

Hibiscus in Daylight: Flower of the Day, Oct 6, 2017

This is the same hibiscus I showed a night shot of two nights ago. Who needs diamonds or yachts when she can have a flower like this constantly blooming to enjoy every morning?
