Last Shot

Bushboy’s challenge was to publish the last shot on your SD card for February 2020. Mine is literally a shot (and a bit.) . It’s a Sangria—the drink ordered by my friend Diane last night. Ironically, although the glass says Colima, I left Colima yesterday and it was in La Mazanilla, Jalisco that this photo was taken.

Bloggers

The world is awakening. See? One-by-one
they enter the blog world to share in the fun—
all the day long, until they are done.
Then with the day’s passing and the death of the sun,
in the hours after midnight, it seems there are none.

Recycled Dreams

Recycled Dreams

Nature recycles as everyone sleeps,
and those dreams that you’ve dreamed are the daydreams it reaps.
Then twice thought and forgotten, our daydreams soar free.
How many dreams may lie snarled in this  tree?
We cast them afloat but  know not how they fare
once we’ve released them out into the air.

Dreams are not limited by dreamers’ choices.
Once announced and declared in stentorian voices,
birds may collect them and shape them in nests
among fibers from sweaters and threadbare old vests
once the pride of new grandpas, they now cradle eggs,
as though new dreams are made of an old daydream’s dregs.

Prompts today are stentorian, daydream, pride, afloat and I’m also incorporating Becca Givens’ Sunday Tree prompt.

When First Love Expires (Not a Reblog)

When First Love Expires

Go tell the young ladies. Go tell the young men.
Those shattered by lost love will find love again.
We recover from passion. Rarely does it kill,
and there’s plenty more of it over the hill.

That queen of your pulse, that king of your heart,
may not be your ending. It may be your start.
Don’t retire with your failure, but once more begin.
Take the leap and try love all over again.

That sweet grass dried up, we harvest as hay.
First love is a beacon that just lights the way

for your next lover—an adequate light
to create a harvest from yesterday’s blight.

Love is a virus that’s hopelessly catching—
a miraculous egg that just goes on hatching.
So do not despair if your first love expires.
Make further use of the lust it inspires.

The prompts for today are beacon, adequate, recover, leap and king.

Reblog: Singlish

Uno mas: the encore. Good morning, LifeLessons readers, OkcForgottenMan still here. Judy has completed her writers retreat and is planning on driving to the Pacific beach town of La Manzanilla today, so I’m extending my reblogging of some of her older poems. It’s been a fun gig for me as I have strolled back through her blog archive, wondering which to select. I’ll look forward to doing so again, when Judy feels the urge to wander.

My pick today is a delightfully imaginative ditty she posted in May, 2016. It’s called “Singlish“. I hope y’all enjoy, as always.

Reblog: Scar

Good evening, LifeLessons readers, OkcForgottenMan still here. Judy is winding down the last day of her writers retreat, and I’m here winding up reblogging some of her older poems. It’s been a fun gig for me as I have strolled back through her blog archive, wondering which to select. I’ll look forward to doing so again, when Judy feels the urge to wander.

My final pick today (and for this go-around?) is a shape poem from May, 2016. Let’s see how you like it. I do. It’s called “Scar“.

Reblog: Earned Solitude

Good evening, LifeLessons readers, OkcForgottenMan here yet again. Judy continues toiling in the final day her writers retreat in Colima, and I’m still here reblogging some of her older poems. It’s a fun gig for me as I stroll back through her blog archive, wondering which to select. I’ve done this before, and I’m looking at her posts from 2016 this go-around.

My second selection today (one more later? maybe.) is something a little different. It’s based on a NaPoWriMo prompt to write a poem to be told backwards! I think Judy did quite well. What do y’all think? The poem is titled “Earned Solitude“.

Reblog: Jake

Good afternoon, LifeLessons readers, OkcForgottenMan here again. Judy is in the seventh – and final – day of her writers retreat, and I’m still here reblogging some of her older poems. It’s a fun gig for me as I stroll back through her blog archive, wondering which to select. I’ve done this before, and I’m looking at her posts from 2016 this go-around.

My first selection today (I hope to post more) is “Jake“, wherein she takes words rhyming with “Jake” to a whole new level. I hope y’all enjoy as much as I did when I first read it, and when I did again, just now.
