Bird of Paradise: Flower of the Day, Oct 29, 2017

This closeup was actually taken months ago in Mexico, but couldn’t resist using it as it goes so well with Cee’s flower of the day.

You can’t beat this combination of orange and purple.

You must see Cee’s flower HERE.

More Fall Flowers: Flower of the Day, Oct. 22, 2017

Brown leaves caught in a tangle of drying flowers signal October as surely as pumpkins on porches and crisp autumn air.

Pests: Flower of the Day, Oct 18, 2017

IMG_0265

These pesky little flowers are taking over my yard.  I had to build a patio over one patch of ground they’d infested.  It was the only way to get rid of them. They are sorta pretty closeup and much enlarged, but still, a pest is a pest.

Cosmos: Flower of the Day, Sept 16, 2017

In September and October, the fields on the way to the mountain town of Tapalpa, a few hours from my home,  fill with millions of flowers, including acres and acres of cosmos.  These photos were taken ten years ago and Oscar, the little boy in this photo, is now 12 years old. Perhaps it is time to take his little sister up into the fields this year!

Cee’s posting of her cosmos flowers today prompted me to echo her post.

Foreshadowing

Foreshadowing

Why does the loveliest flower have the sharpest thorn
so you had to pay the tariff of young flesh pierced and torn
by the most splendid ornament that you had ever worn
as he clasped you to the music of the saxophone and horn?
It’s been true each day you’ve lived, was true when you were born,
and your father brought fresh roses—your bedside to adorn.
And it will go on being true on that future morn
when roses will be carried by those saddened and forlorn
as they place your ashes where you’ve asked that they be borne:
back to that same rose bush that so long ago was shorn
of the roses that you carried when your wedding vows were sworn.

The prompt today is thorny.

Zinnias: Flower of the Day, Aug 21, 2017

IMG_0231Not many zinnias this year.  This little fellow was a volunteer, peeping out from underneath the stone at the base of a palm tree.
