Morning Glory: Flower of the Day Dec 9, 2015

IMG_9215.jpg

I think the morning glory is the hardest of all flowers to capture. Perhaps it is because it doesn’t have much dimension from it’s most interesting angle. I’ve photographed dozens, but this is the first one I’ve even considered using.

I don’t know what this lovely little green flower on its pink stem is, but if you do, I’ll love to have you tell me its name.

Stuck on Sepia: Flower of the Day Challenge 11/7/15

Stuck on Sepia

Once again, I preferred the sepia version of this flower.  See two other alternatives below and tell me your preference.  It seems to me that the sepia better reveals the details of both the petals and the raindrops caught in them

Version 2And below, again, is the actual color of the flower:

Hide-And-Go-Seek: Flower of the Day Challenge, 10/22/15

                                             Hide-And-Go-Seek

The rain started while we were watching an incredible Iranian film at the Lake Chapala Society.  When we emerged, the rain was a surprise, even though we’d been warned about the big tropical storm about to hit–a long arm of Hurricane Patricia that is predicted to arrive with full force at midnight tomorrow.  I have started to prepare–butane camp cooker, bottles of water freezing in the freezer, candles and oil lamps out, cooking food ahead as I’m about out of gas and I know I have a gas leak.  How could I use $200 worth of gas in three weeks?

Anyway, we decided to be kids and enjoy the block long walk to the car in the rain and were rewarded, when we ducked under cover of the little outside restaurant that was halfway to the gate of LCS, with a view of an incredible orchid tree.  (My name.  I don’t know what it is.)  An added bonus was that I was under the cover of the roof of the open air little restaurant and so I didn’t have to risk getting my lens wet.

It was only after I got home and started playing with the pictures that I spied the various little characters hidden in the flowers.  See if you can find them.

IMG_6938Can you find the koala bear?  Some may think he has more in common with a polar bear.

Bleached Hibiscus: Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge

Bleached Hibiscus

IMG_5477I can’t compete with that deep red, Cee, so I’m going in the opposite direction. Here is an hibiscus with the color drained out of it. I would love to have one that was really this color! (Or lack of color.)

I was given this flower today so want to share it. See:  http://ceenphotography.com/2015/10/07/flower-of-the-day-october-7-2015-hibiscus-for-judy/

Heavenly Hibiscus:Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge

Heavenly HibiscusIMG_5843 IMG_5845 IMG_5849 I found this gorgeous hibiscus outside the Casa del Sol B&B in Ajijic. I’ve been there twice in the past week for a Feria fashion show and then for a board meeting.  I broke my vow to never again attend a board meeting when I moved to Mexico!  Finally, after 14 years, I went to the Feria board meeting to find out what my duties as “coordinator of artist gifts” will be. (I’m not sure that is my title, but yeah, I caved for this very good cause.  I’ll give you more information later.)  It you love Mexican art (and if you live north of the border, you’ve never really seen the “real” stuff done by artists and artisans who continue centuries old traditions) you would love the Feria de Maestros del Arte! But more about that later.
