Rust and Rebozos: Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge: 2016, Week 25

Women at Rebozo Parade in Ajijic

I love the variety of the women shown in this photo and how each one conveys a different story. The obvious focus is the woman in the white dress, but I also love the contrast between the basket of flowers and the bright turquoise satin purse, the woman looking right at me from behind the hand of the woman adjusting her chignon.  Just so much going on that day of the rebozo parade and some of that is conveyed in this photo.

These are two favorite photos I found when looking through some old hard drives.  I could save them for a specific prompt, but by then I might have forgotten them, so here they are in odd balls.

Wire Roll on Fence on the Way to Tapalpa

On the road to Tapalpa!  This would have worked well for the curves prompt!  Love this rusty roll of wire flung over the fence.  Those old fences made out of whatever wood was at hand are still my favorites.  You can see some of the famous October wildflowers scattered around in the tall grass.

Aimless

IMG_9131

Here’s a smaller version so you can see the shape on a smaller device.  I’ve been working on this shape for seven hours.  Sheesh! how time flies.  I have versions of four different birds, but I think I like the duck best.

In case you are curious, here is another version of “Aimless.”  Same poem, different bird–a plumed exotic with its wings extended.

And, for those who haven’t had enought, here is the first view I did:

Perfectly Formed

Version 2

Perfectly Formed

We demand perfection in so many things––
performances most flawless, cars that sport no dings,
trophy wives to greet us at the door each night
with Ivory complexions and bodies toned just right.
My kid’s an honor student, your child a beauty queen.
If we have other children, they are more rarely seen.
In our quest for perfection, somehow the TV
Has become our standard for reality.
Silicone injections in our lower cheeks,
surgery reducing our stomachs, thighs and beaks.
If we’re not born perfect, thank God that we can buy it.
Every ordinarily attractive gal should try it!
I heard there was a sale on for tummy tucks and lifts––
promoting them as valentines and other midlife gifts.
And so I declared myself my own valentine
and began to plan a body that was really really fine.
I started with love handles and worked up to my neck.
‘Til I’d made a total rehab out of this old wreck.
If I had been born perfect, I’d probably be blue.
I would have had to figure out something else to do.
Perhaps I would have learned to make those statues on my shelf
instead of concentrating on adjustments to myself!

This poem is a spoof––no tummy tucks yet. When I was growing up, there was a feature in the “Reader’s Digest” entitled “The Perfect Squelch.” In it, they would share perfect examples of verbal “one-up-manship.” Now that’s the kind of perfection I can appreciate. I’d love to hear your examples  of perfect squelches you’ve made or heard in the comments section below. I also have a “perfect photos” piece I’m working on, but I’ve run out of time as I have a birthday party to go to, so come back later for the photos I meant to accompany this poem.

Entrapment

Entrapment

The city lights are tempting–each theater and store,
but when my outer life is rich, my inner life’s a bore.
Do I want to create my life or should it create me?
And which is which?  I do not know. Which helps me most to be?
I guess I need a balance, but each choice is a trap.
While I think it over, perhaps I’ll have a nap.
Sometimes the truth is found in dreams. Perhaps that will work now.
But once the “what” occurs to me, I’ll have to dream the “how.”
I dream empty buildings and abandoned avenues,
stores filled with pretty dresses, refrigerators, shoes.
Wind through broken windows and grass through broken walks.
All those empty radios where no one ever talks.
While somewhere in the country, away from smog and fumes
those busy cities of the past are sealed away in rooms
writing morning pages and playing with their dogs,
recording things they used to do in their daily blogs.
If I don’t join the city, if I choose to be free,
perhaps the busy city will choose to come join me!

The Remarkable Photo Art of Jim Arnieri: Cee’s Black and White(?) Photo Challenge, Cars

All photos copyright by Jim Arnieri and for review purposes only.  Please do not download or reproduce without his permission.

These photos aren’t black and white and they aren’t mine, but my brother-in-law Jim Arnieri is the most incredible photographer of automobiles that I have ever seen, so this seems like the perfect time to share his work. He specializes in details, so you will usually not even realize it is cars that you are looking at.  Scroll through the page at this link: http://www.artltd-hja.com/photos.html but then do not miss going here as well: http://www.artltd-hja.com/decor.html to see his art in the setting of their home.  Hope you enjoy this trip through a wheeled world much more spectacular than any I could concoct while I go to try to find some black and whites of my own that will probably be less art, more story..
