Sunday Trees Challenge 2016/08/14

IMG_0402

There is something about this photo of a tree peeking over my sister’s neighbor’s roof that I just like.  Perhaps it is the cloud’s echo of the tree’s shape, or the juxtaposition of the nearly horizontal hard straight line of the eaves trough to the softer vertical shapes of the tree and cloud.. or just the colors.  More likely a combination of all of these elements.

Dahlia: Flower of the Day Aug 14, 2016

IMG_3208.jpg

A surprise when I went down on a photo expedition in my garden this morning. I’ve never had this color of dahlia in my garden before. I guess it is another example of chaos theory!!

Complicated by Nature

Complicated by Nature

I find my mind keeps spinning until my brain grows weary
ever since I foolishly googled “chaos theory.”

While fatalists declare the world caught up in its rut,
the chaos theorists have theories I cannot rebut

wherein each thing duplicated differs from the last
because of other factors than the mold from which they’re cast.

And suddenly I have excuses for each thing I do.
Why my cake has fallen, and why my bras turned blue

the last time that I washed them the detergent was the same,
and yet something perhaps had changed–chaos theory is to blame!!!

Each snowflake varies from last, each flower is unique.
It seems that our creator demands a bit of tweak

in everything created. Chaos affects  everything.
I guess that Mother Nature wants to keep it interesting!!!

Toadie Came a Courtin’: Thursday Doors, Aug 11, 2016

IMG_3182I don’t know how this little guy got inside my locked screen door and three feet up on the crossbar, but he did.  The space between the screen door and the glass door seems too small for him to have been able to jump up. This is the third tiny toad like this that i’ve found on the crossbars of slider screens or doors.  They are exactly the color of the paint, so must feel hidden and safe.  Hope they are catching flies!  I relocated him to a planter box as this door is used too much for him to be safe and the kitty lurked just a few feet away. The ledge he was on was 1/2 inch deep, so I’m sure he couldn’t be over an inch long.  Tiny little guy.

And, so you can get an idea of scale and also because this posting is supposed to be about doors, after all, here is an inside and outside shot of the screen door that was his resting place as well as the planter with rosemary plant that I relocated him to:

To Reach for is Not To Reach

Version 2

Reach

When fate makes a fissure, we’ve three ways to go.
One is acceptance, another is woe.
But the third is to shatter the old status quo
by using the break as a window to show
a new direction where we may go
to learn what before we had no way to know.
What makes a man’s life is what’s beyond his reach.
Why stop at a wall when you could make a breach?
What today is impossible may be the goal
for a man with a chisel who carves out a hole.

My Obsessions

My Obsessions

I’m not obsessed by fancy cars, heroin or grog.
What am I obsessed by? Chocolate and my blog.
I cannot resist them. My fingers itch for either.
Until I’ve finished both of them, I cannot take a breather.
Thankfully just one of them is fattening, for you see
although I scarf down chocolate, it’s my blog that consumes me!
