Here and Now

Here and Now

IMG_0471 (2).jpg

We saw balloons going up almost every day we were here.  On Xmas Eve, the sun and clouds cooperated to give fantastic views.  Today it was perhaps too windy or we didn’t look up at the right time, so we didn’t see any balloons.  In any case, each time I was glad I was below snapping the picture and not above, being snapped!!

Hugh’s Photo Challenge, Week 8, Xmas Tree Topper Challenge

Version 2
This is actually the topper of my friends Joan and Michael’s tree.  I didn’t have one this year as I’m going to Phoenix for Christmas.  Here are some other shots from their tree:

B and W––Cee’s Black and White Challenge

B&W

DSC09079
“B” is for bathtub. “W” is for webbing. The pastels in the background insisted on being left alone!!!

IMG_0068.jpg
                                          “W” is for Waiting!!!

IMG_8999
. . . and more “W“aiting, in this case for the dog who usually lived in the house we rented at the beach for three days.

IMG_9002Every day, these three “B“est friends would come to our front door looking for the dog who was missing from our house. On the last day, they surprised us from coming to the back beach side door. Wish I could have seen them finally reunited!

IMG_8992And finally, “B” is for Big Black Birds.  In this case, grackles.

Metal/Wood

                                                              Metal/Wood
This prompt reminds me of the old game paper/scissors/stone.  Scissors cut paper, paper covers stone, stone breaks Scissors.

IMG_8731.jpg
I inadvertently left the above  picture out of my Thanksgiving post, and now I’m glad I did.  I love the movement and texture in the potatoes, and the spoon–with the stainless bowl and stem and the wooden handle––is my favorite.  It belongs to a set Bob brought into our marriage.  Most of the pieces have been broken or lost, but these big serving spoons come in handy every time company comes!

IMG_8118.jpg
IMG_8118This large wooden heart shown in the Maestros del Arte Feria is covered in metal milagros.

IMG_8119

This life-sized hand also covered in milagros came home with me!

DSC01298

The wooden barn is to protect the buffalo in a park in Sheridan, Wyoming from harsh Wyoming winters. The metal mesh fence is to protect park visitors from the buffalo!

Version 2IMG_6742IMG_6577The wood married to metal of the scaffold is echoed in the wooden handle and iron head of the hammer.

Art Fusion: Cee’s Odd Ball Challenge, Week 49

IMG_9173IMG_9178

Art Fusion

The funky Gecko Gallery in Ajijic, Mexico, has a perfect solution to an overloaded electrical circuit and it only cost ten pesos (two five pesos coins) to solve the problem!  I hated to ask to photograph the art, but I had no compunction about photographing their fuse box! Art is everywhere.  I enjoyed my friend Mario’s two shows opening on the same night in Ajijic, and enjoyed other spontaneous photography “finds” as well.

Moving Focal Point: Cee’s Rule of Thirds––Compose Yourself Photo Challenge

Moving Focal Point: Cee’s Rule of Thirds

IMG_8593IMG_8241
Version 2I’m trying to figure out why the rule of thirds doesn’t seem to work in this photo.  I think it is because most of the elements are lined up to the left.  If the bottom elements extended over to the right margin, I think this would work better.  Below is the original., which I prefer.  Which do you prefer?
IMG_8964IMG_7106In this photo, cropped from the larger photo below, I followed Cee ‘s rule which says, “. . . divide your view finder into a gird with nine boxes  . . . .  you should place the subject of your picture on one of the points where the lines intersect.”   I much prefer the version above, where the larger “belly button” it placed over the upper left intersection line  to the busier original version below.
