Hibiscus: FOTD June 12, 2020

IMG_8648 2

Remember the flower that vanished a few weeks ago between the time I first saw it and two hours later when I returned with the camera? This is the newest flower on that bush. Finally, my patience has been rewarded, but not my curiosity over where it could have vanished to in a back yard behind locked gates with only me there!

Some of you have seen my newly-muraled front door, but it seems so perfect for this prompt that here it is again. The artists are Jesus Lopez Vega and his son Eduardo.

Bobble Head: Cee’s Hunt for Joy Challenge, June 11, 2020

Cee’s challenge is to publish a photo of the cutest thing on your desk. This is the little Bobble Head in the shape of a steer that Ollie batted off the shelf in the guest bedroom and bit the leg off last week. I’ve inserted a toothpick in lieu of the lost leg but haven’t painted it yet. The paint is down in the studio and I keep forgetting to take this down or bring paint up. He has been sitting on my desk trying to remind me to finish his transformation but meanwhile is the cutest thing on my desk.

What reflects our personalities more than what we put on our heads?

For Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Hats.

There is a distinction between avarice, self importance, grandstanding and obtaining a meal for your family in the wild. This man has no honor and is making all US citizens pay for his and his family’s outrageous vacations and splurges. *** This should make you think how you will vote while you are sitting at […]

via Greed — The Bag Lady

He

DSC00516

He

would have married the girl and had children
and been less overt with his teachings
of peace and love too radical
for a world immersed in their opposite.

He would then not have changed the world, perhaps,
but  only lived in contrast
to that power popular among those who needed it
and effective in keeping those averse to it quiet.

If he had married the girl, the world would probably have ended up
pretty much how it has anyway, but he might have had a different ending.
Grown old, had his cronies over to talk about the good old days,
converted water into wine and served them loaves and fishes.

Mary Magdalene would have danced for them in their memories,
and all of his grandchildren would have listened in awe
to hear the tales of how he walked on the water,
bade Lazarus to rise from the grave.

He would shush his cronies as they started in
with tales of how he smashed the souvenir stands
and threw the money changers out of the temple.
Not stories for young ears not quite ready to learn revolution.

And all of the ill done in his name might have happened anyway,
but at least he would have had a good life.  Would have suffered less.
And some other savior might have found a way to save the world
that would have worked.

It’s a Jungle Out There! FOTD June 9, 2020

I can’t believe how lush everything is right now, even before the rainy season. This is the view from my studio.

And here’s a closeup:

America’s Burning

America’s Burning

Count the faces. Take a tally
of the peaceful protest rally.
Their routine is most well-planned,
masks in place, placards in hand.

Enter police. Down on belly!!!
Enter newscasters for telly.
Teargas in the people’s park.
Truckloads arrive after dark.

Rioting and smashing glass.
Other dark deeds come to pass.
Using protest for excuse
to bring discord and spread abuse.

Violence becomes routine.
Authority a cruel machine.
A whole nation comes to grieve
the loss of what most folks believe.

An orange bigot, Bible raised,
pontificates, posturing, crazed.
A landmark of our country’s pride,
struck by a flash as freedom died.

Has our nation come to this?
This puffed-up, prideful bag of piss?
Shame on a country who listens to
a fool who’s rotten through and through.

Let sane men take the lead  and bring
some sanity to everything.
Equality and fairness reign
under a government more sane.

People stand up. Demand the best.
Do not give up. We cannot rest.
Seize back the country we have sold
to men who only care for gold.

Give succor to the halt and lame.
Do not play the money game
subsidizing rich man’s greed
instead of helping those in need.

Color is just an outer skin
and not a mark of shame or sin.
Use these sad times to make a start
to start to recognize the heart

that unites men from every nation,
every interest, every station.
Save our earth and save mankind.
Restore justice, and make her blind!!

Prompt words today are belly, landmark, grieve, rally and routine. I swore I’d write about something other than the rallies and violence that are tearing at the flesh of the whole world, but impossible to follow these prompt words anywhere except back to the current matters at hand.

Adulation and Lamentation

Adulation and Lamentation

Held captive by your luscious smile, I state the total truth
when I say you are perfection, both in lip and tooth!
Your hair’s no less than gossamer. Your figure scores a ten.
No greater beauty’s lauded by any poet’s pen.

Thanks to both your parents for creating such perfection.
Hereafter we must ostracize beauty of less confection.
It’s clear they scored a victory when they created you,
so why stop at one instead of making us a few?

Prompt words for the day are luscious, thanks, victory, ostracize and captive.
