Places People Live

From Wyoming to Missouri, from Prince Edward Island to Mexico. from California to South Dakota to Minnesota, to Maryland  this is where and how people live. Ocean, lake, forest and plains, there is as much variety in where we live and the houses we live in as there is in our personalities.  Viva la Difference!!!

The Senior Issue, by Rich Paschall Recently a friend of mine commented that if Congress cut Social Security and Medicare, they will see a lot of angry seniors vote them out of office. Many Republicans promised to do just that before the last election. If they maintain control of both houses, they almost certainly will […]

The Flatterer

The Flatterer

He was much given to compliments that most folks found annoying
as they tended to consider them saccharine and cloying.
I did not mind his compliments. Admiration was just fine,
but there was bound to be a time farther along the line
when I had a bad hair day and I was not going to buy it.
But once again, he won his points by simply being quiet!

Mature Love

Mature Love

I once basked in your bonfire, and though no one quite remembers
when we last caught fire, I’m warming fingers at your embers.
Slow steady fires that survive, snoozing ‘neath the ashes
have the same mysterious lure as winks obscured by lashes.
Passion need not flame to warm the cockles of one’s heart.
What was a wild onslaught at its very start
may settle down to a warm glow or a steady smolder.
Loving hand placed over hand —my head upon your shoulder.

Phallus Impudicus or Dead Man’s Mushroom

A mushroom of some variety.  I’ve never seen one before. Pointed out to me by forgottenman in a little town near Big Spring. It had a strange odor and seemed to be attracting flies into its spout. It looks a lot like a baster.  So strange. Thanks, Maria, for identifying what this mushroom is. Check it out on Google for some fascinating information. When I googled it after your giving me its name, I discovered it has a head as well that is probably the part lying on the ground.

Trick or Treaters

Trick or Treaters

We only had 11 Trick or Treaters who braved the drizzly Halloween weather to visit us for treats. this was half the crowd we had last year.  Unfortunately, I snapped the first, a baby who called me “Mama” and smiled and held his hands out to be picked up and only later discovered there was no SD card in the camera.  Sad.  He was such a cutie and would have walked right in to spend the evening if his mom hadn’t stopped him.  The photos I did get are not great as for some reason my camera, only 6 months old, seems not to be focusing with the same precision as before. Double Sad.  Here are the cuties, as I caught them. They were a bit soggy but with the exception of one, a pretty happy bunch. Can you identify the kids who came last year who returned this year? There’s a link to last year’s meangerie above, captured in orange.
