Orchid: Flower of the Day Jan 23, 2016

Orchid

Version 4

I took this picture some time ago at a nursery but have never used it because I really don’t like either the angle nor the color of the orchid. I decided to play around with cropping.

Version 2

There was something skull-like about the center of the orchid. I liked the color better when lightened, but still, the flower was just too busy.

I think perhaps I like it best in black and white.

This is the single hibiscus on its  bush and my next blog posting may indicate why!

Yellow!!!Cee’s Flower of the Day Challenge Jan 13, 2016

                                                                              Yellow!!!

IMG_1011Finally!!!! I’ve been saving this one for this challenge for weeks now and keep bringing it up from my desktop.  I’ve never seen a yellow poinsettia before and think it probably changed from green to yellow to white or some other color, but I loved it at this stage!!  So glad to finally be able to use it.  I promise no more poinsettias for awhile.  Well, unless there’s a really neat one!!!  Backsliding already.

Bouquet: Flower of the Day, Jan 11, 2016

                                                                         Bouquet

What if you could wave your hand and pound your fingers on a magical machine to transform one simple flower into an entire bouquet of beautiful and varied flowers? And what if this cost you nothing?  This is what I gained from one lackluster and not even very well-focused photo of a bougainvillea bush in my yard.  By “mining” different locations on the photo and using only the simple tools available as part of my “photos” app that came with my MacBook Air, I created all of these different floral images. None will win any prizes, but this was just a fast playful interlude in an otherwise busy day.  Try it.  Fun, fun.

Time was when I would have cropped this picture, but given permission by Cee’s “rule of 2/3,” I have left the wall above––mainly because I’m intrigued by the quality of light and shadow there. I love the contrast to the very busy  crown of thorns and succulent in the foreground.  I always know what I like but don’t always know why.  Thanks, Cee, for giving a name to this one!!

The Answer: Flower of the Day, Jan. 6, 2016

                                                          The Answer:

IMG_1066 (1)

This is the answer to the previous post entitled “What is It?” The answer is that the earlier pictures were of the inside of this Datura flower.  Hard to believe such a long bell-shaped flower would look so non-assuming and flat inside.  I expected a long exotic stamen and pistils similar to a hibiscus flower.

What is It?

This is, obviously, the inside of a flower.  I’ll give a hint.  I had to get down on my knees and shoot up into the flower.  Want to give a guess in comments?  I’ll give an answer and show a picture of the flower in my next post.
