The Win

img_3052

The Win

When you reach out for the prize,
please be sure you recognize
that chaos can adopt the guise
of a much-wished-for surprise.
Bad things can come in lovely trappings,

so when you remove the wrappings,
what you might find wrapped inside
is something they have had to hide
lest you know the ugly truth.
A close-lipped smile can hide the tooth
that bites the hand that votes for it.
How can we once again permit
such evil to come into power?
This time we cannot hide or cower.
Brave men and women must stir their bones—
leave their screens, forsake their phones,
to come back to reality.
See how much worse the world could be.
Environment an oozing shambles
while big business wrecks and gambles.
Brother turned against his brother,
all the world blaming the other.
Misogyny, racism and
a lack of respect for the land—
what will these concepts lead us to?
Democracy is now a zoo.
Polluted rivers, polluted skies,
will prove the truth some recognize.
In forgetting our forefathers’ goals,
we’ve let big business buy our souls.
Lately foolish, please now be wise.
Please, countrymen, open your eyes.
Your children sicken, your grandchild cries.
Please save his country before it dies.
It is time to recognize
these words do not hyperbolize.
Now is the time to change and wake up.
Our country’s factions need to make up!

The prompt today was recognize.

Too Much Information

DSCF1865 - Version 3jdbphoto

Too Much Information

There is too much of everything—
things constantly developing.
There is no time to fool around.
We’re always off and “somewhere bound.”
The days of lying in the grass
and watching ants? They are long past.
Instead I lie upon my back
with laptop and my battery pack,
plugged into the confusing world,
downloading facts dispensed and whirled
together in my spinning brain.
I want a simple world again
composed of only what’s around me.
All these facts stress and confound me—
glossing over the fact that
I’m really only where I’m at!

Ironic that as I tried to save this, my computer refused to do so or to add the photograph to the post  because the startup disk was full.  No more memory––too much information!!! I’m going to try to post this, remove things from my computer, and then post the photo to go with it. (After one hour of removing files from my computer—success!!! Photo is added.)

Overwhelming is the prompt word today.

Queen of Clean

img_3530

Queen of Clean

Squeaky clean, squeaky clean—
no errant coffee ground nor bean
mars my kitchen’s pure hygiene.
My kitchen floor is so pristine,
of cleanliness, I am the queen.
But if you catch it in between
those days the cleaning girl has been
working her magic on the scene,
I do not brag.  I do not preen.
I fear my house has lost its sheen.
I blame it on the dog, who’s keen
on dragging sand home from the beach
and brooms and dust rags I can’t reach.
So to you who daily teach
rules in fastidiousness, then preach
that cleanliness is right there next
to godliness, I’m clearly hexed.
Except for that one day a week
when I, too, am a cleanliness freak.

Resist!!!!!

img_2826
Resist!!!!

This serpent that has tweeted and hissed
bursts forth like an erupting cyst,
uncoiling through the growing mist
of hydrocarbons, he checks his wrist.
Time for more treasures to be dissed––
air to pollute, cronies to enlist.
He combs his mind. He checks his list––
His whole agenda, an upraised fist.
Supporters, how could you have missed
the cold heart of this pugilist?
A savior or a hedonist?
It’s like the antichrist you’ve kissed.
How can you fail to get the gist
of all he’s recently dismissed:
the fact we need to coexist––
the clean air we need to exist––
the animals we must assist
with what is needed to subsist?
Health care and schools join the list.
Women’s rights? Staunch men insist
that ancient laws once more persist.
This truth just cannot be dismissed:
he is the largest terrorist.
He is a child, moody and pissed,
who gives our arm a mighty twist,
who must be chided to desist.
We must continue to resist.

The prompt word today is resist.

Heaven Scent

Heaven Scent

With no wall or door or fence,
the wilds a new experience,
when morning dawns, he’s off his chain
and free in nature once again.

From chair to chair and tent to tent,
He follows lovely trails of scent.
He’s on the trail of cat or rabbit—
hoping he might find and grab it.

Like movies scribed during the night,
they tell their tales of darkened flight.
He sees the various routes they chose
in pictures captured by his nose.

Humans cannot know or feel
the intricacies scents reveal.
He follows everywhere they went,
finding aromas heaven-sent.

Where Time Goes

 Version 2

Where Time Goes

They have not vanished without a trace.
Past years are written on your face.
They web your skin like finest lace,
its former smoothness to efface,
and write a story in its place.

The prompt today was replacement.

Yellow

Okay… gotta do it.  This was a poem I wrote three years ago when yellow was the prompt.  See it HERE.

The prompt word was yellow.

Boob Tube?

Boob Tube?

If only brassieres were pneumatic,

uplift would be automatic.
Once more, we’d sport that perfect coning
without benefit of toning,
surgery or silicone.
Our ladies would just stand alone,
proudly there in front of us
with less strapping and less fuss.
When they invented inner tubes,
why did they neglect ones for boobs?

The prompt word today was automatic.

Rose

Rose

We are all filters of the world,
taking the news in—the happy births
and inane deaths, the charities and cruelties,
the beauties and the gross ugliness
of nature and of human nature.
These things pass through us or get stuck,
taking us with them into the poles of our own natures.
Those ills of the world we choose to dwell on
change us if we are not careful to let them go again
or to act in a manner opposite—
which causes us to seed new hope
which just might, just might
catch hold in the sieves
of others

and bloom.

A concrete poem is one that takes the form of what it describes. I could find no photo of a rose in my photo library, so the form of the poem will have to do to illustrate its meaning.

The prompt today was “filter.”

Simple

Trying to keep it simple is harder than you think.
Each time I straighten out my life, fate adds another kink.

Today’s prompt was “Simple“.
