Kukla and Ollie, Wednesday Afternoon

Kukla and Ollie, Thursday Afternoon. Creatures of Habit.
Afternoon Under Cats.
I’m feeling lethargic, no gumption or drive.
If you saw me now, you would doubt I’m alive.
I’m flat on my back in a bit of a bind,
looking for energy that I can’t find.
So though I need coffee to wash down some Bayer’s,
my cats are on top of me, piled in layers.
Obstinate creatures, they simply won’t move.
They laze around daily with nothing to prove.
And what must be giggles just come out as purrs.
I need me some whips and I need me some spurs
so I can herd cats from their comfy position
that they have adopted as part of their mission
to make sure that I do not deign to stir,
remaining inert under bundles of fur.
Prompts for today are gumption, layer, giggle, obstinate and find.
For Thursday Doors prompt.
A cat in confinement (of her own choice, of course.)
Here is a photo I received via email from my friend Candace Spence, who is the 25th person to send an image! The prompt is still alive until the end of April! HERE is the place to link your photo if you are putting it onto your blog. We’ve just hit 25 entries, so on May 1 I will hold a drawing and donate up to $100 to the charity of choice of the winner of the drawing, depending on how many entries there are. You can also see links to a number of the photos there.

The kittens were tiny when they figured out how jump up on the outside ledge, to remove one glass slat and then the screen to break into my bathroom window. I have somehow lost the video, but here are some stills I took. Enterprising. The four of them worked together to get the job done. (Click on first photo to enlarge all.)

Here are a couple of my own “Cat in the Window” shots, as well as one by my friend Gloria. The story behind her shot is that I was visiting at her house and we were talking about “things” we loved. She brought out this bronze cat and said it was something she’d thought she liked, but she’d never been able to find a place for. I suggested she put it on the windowsill and she said she often put flowers there, but I said, no, I meant to put it on the outside sill between the window and the window grill. She just sent me this photo. Perfect!
And, here is a recent little encounter acted out inside/outside my kitchen between my very reclusive older cat, Annie, who is still resentful of the four kittens I adopted two years ago. She is just now starting to allow a few overtures from Kukla, who with her brother Ollie is one of the two remaining “kittens” who are pretty much outside cats except for occasional nighttime visits inside, where Annie is pretty much the crabby occupant to their tentative visitor. (Click on the first photo below to enlarge and view all.)
It could be be beginning of a beautiful friendship, or Annie might just be coveting Kukla’s breakfast.
Now, please share your “Cat in the Window” photos. And don’t forget to tell us the story behind the photo! Publish them in your blog and put a link in comments below or if you don’t have a blog, just send me the photo via Facebook or email.
Basking
Cats love of apricity is more than just a fluke.
It is a vital tendency and so we can’t rebuke
our cats for lying prone a lot in any ray of sun.
A cat’s in need of toasting as much as any bun.
If you can imagine a Kardashian without
the flash of any flashbulb, you will without a doubt
be able to imagine a cat without the rays
filtered through venetian blinds, or fully in the blaze
of a scorching summer sun. A cat can withstand all
the heat that we can give them, in summer, winter fall.
And if there is no sun at all, a cat can just make do
with the full attention of a surrogate like you!!!

If given a choice, my cats will always choose a pile. Then when grooming time comes, they never know the difference between them so just groom the closest body within tongue.

Cat Placement
Have you ever noticed a cat will squeeze
into the smallest space it sees?
It puts itself where it may please—
Within your purse, between your knees.
I do not know what extreme pleasure
cats find within taking their leisure
in places of minuscule measure.
I only know they seem to treasure
tiny cracks they barely fit in,
places they can barely get in.
It’s as though they see the wit in
the unlikeliest place to sit in.
Where you don’t want her? She’ll be there
on your computer, in your hair.
You have no power, so do not dare
say where to put her derriere!
Your drawers and shelves just suit a cat.
She’ll fit right in wherever she’s at.
Don’t bother to buy her a mat.
She much prefers your favorite hat!
(For forgottenman, who requested cats, cats and more cats. Here they are, just for you!)
