AGNB’s Chocolate Box Questionnaire #2, 2021

These are Rory’s questions for the week and my answers:

1 Who was your favourite cartoon character when you were a growing up?   Tom and Jerry
2 Have you ever had a crush on someone as an adult?  Yes. Luckily, they had a crush back.
3 Night or Day Time which is best for you and why?  Night. No interruptions, no expectations.
4 Have you ever had sex in deep snow as opposed to a light frosting? Neither
5 What are three of your weirdest quirks?  Wiggling my nose to the side, talking to myself, potato chips with cottage cheese and ketchup.
6 Can you sum up your personal life for the year 2020 using only 7 words?  Diverting myself by means of excess creativity.
7 What’s the most embarrassing position you have ever been stuck in?  I must have wiped it out of my memory.
8 Some words simply roll off your tongue as if they were honey, what are three of your favourite words? onomatopoeia, incandescent, penultimate.
9 What sweety things do you like to consume for pleasure? Chocolate, ice cream (no longer possible, however) tiramisu.
10 Do you currently have a favourited song and if so what is it? Desperado by Linda Ronstadt.
11 PJ’s, Tee shirt and shorts, Naked or Other – What is your preference? Nightgown.
12 What is your most favoured breakfast dish? Waffles, although I hardly ever have them.
13 Which colour is best worn to display your passion with life?  Green.
14 If you had to be soaked in a liquid that wasn’t water, what would you choose and why? Chocolate. I could lick it off.
15 Underwear or Commando? Underwear, I guess, from lack of knowing what commando is.
16 Which bed size do you prefer for whatever – Single, Twin, Bunks, Double, King, Queen or Other – and why? Queen. It is big enough without getting lost in.
17 How quick are you to react to no warning, last minute moments?  I’m very good at it. Have gotten out of some tight spots because of it.
18 You have just woken up …. the first thing you do is? Reach for my computer and try to get a blog done before the animals detect that I’m awake.

Hairpin

Hairpin

He rolls over,
        pinning her
by her long hair.
He sleeps on it.
      She draws his dreams
           through its long shafts,
works out his days
into her web.
      Her hair,
black raven coal
      falling down the chute
between his hands.
      Her hair
to be pulled down.
Her hair
his fist
   coiled
   in each other.
Her hair
his mouth
the cave
     a feast of hair.
Her hair side-winding on the ground.
Passion.
     Her hair whips
his face until he weaves
a bridge of it
      to cross the high crevasse.
Her hair
drying
with a baby
    swinging from it.
         her hair woven
               into bags and harnesses,
    yet when a strand
slips from behind her ear,

it makes necessary:
fire,
bronze,
         iron,
       steel,
rubber,
  factories,
t
he assembly line

just to invent

         the
     hairpin.

Oops, sorry… I missed that I was supposed to start with “This is not a . . . . I was in a hurry because I was afraid the posting time was about to close!  For dVerse Poets Prompt: An object.

Final Cure

Final Cure

Her health was being challenged by a constant series of woes.
She had chilblains on her fingers and corns between her toes.
She suffered migraine headaches, and her joints became rheumatic
during the rainy season, when she also turned asthmatic.
Since her approach to cures was stubbornly heuristic,
the remedies she chose to use tended toward pluralistic.
Her health care ran the gamut from Kabbalah to holistic.
One day she saw a doctor and the next she saw a mystic.
And since the switching back and forth became a sort of Hell,
in the end she gave them all up and decided to get well!

Prompt words for the day are health, series, heuristic and woe.

Winds of Change

Winds of Change

I’m picking at my cuticles and gnawing on my nails.
The winds behind my worries are puffing out their sails.
Operation Trump-bump may require a necromancer
to resurrect some aid to rid us of this monster’s cancer.

Lincoln, Roosevelt and Truman may have words to tell
how to rid our country of the past four years of Hell.
I’m eager to be rid of them and feel some consternation
over just how long it’s taken for this operation.

May less self-serving leaders at this long-awaited date
seize the wheel and take control of our ship of state.
May our country come together, most hoping for the best
and set our past divisions, hopefully, to rest.

Prompt words today are gnaw, operation, picking and eager.

The Further Story behind the Capitol Riots

Arnold Schwarzenegger on The Insurrection

This message from Arnold Schwarzenegger is the most comforting thing I’ve read since the horrible occurrence at our national Capitol. Republican or Democrat, Trump supporter or Trump reviler, it gives encouragement to come together.

okcForgottenMan's avatarserial monography: forgottenman's ruminations

I just love what Arnold Schwarzenegger has to say about the Capitol invasion!

Update: I have several reasons NOT to like Governor Schwarzenegger. He apparently continues to call himself a Republican after all. But he has a distinct talent and flair for making video appeals that I love. Below is another video from 2017 along the same lines as his latest. (Yes, he cusses a couple times, so you must click through to view it directly on YouTube. No idea why that would be so.)

Married to the Sun

Married to the Sun

One ray makes an incision through a layer of cloud to land
like a stream of gold upon my outstretched hand.
It is no illusion that its trail of liquid gold
winds around my finger. It’s a beauty to behold.

All my life, it’s true I’ve not belonged to anyone,
but now it is official. I am married to the sun.
Why else would just one sun ray make the decision to linger
of all the places in the world, only upon my finger?

Prompt words for today are trail, liquid, illusion and linger.
