The prompt today is “float.”

Fellow Yellows

The Yellow Dress

When she wears it, worlds collide.
Men collect on either side.
Women seek her company.
Children seek to grace her knee.

Potentates, senators, kings
bring her necklaces and rings.
Scholars write her name in books.
Jealous women exchange looks.

There is hardly anything
that nature does not seek to bring.
Winds blow harder, streams divert
when she wears that saffron skirt.

The very heavens note where she went.
Tsunamis curl, volcanoes vent.
Soldiers line up to parade.
Mimes begin their mute charade.

Actors emote better to
this goddess in her sunny hue.
Mourning doves just bill and coo.
Old boyfriends seek her out anew.

Yet as she stands before her glass,
surveying both her front and ass,
her mate says, “Are you wearing that?”
and she surmises she looks too fat.

As she changes into basic black,
the lava cools, the seas hold back.
Her suitors cease their clamoring press.
She does not wear the yellow dress.

Dispelling Dilemma

Dispelling Dilemma

No matter how sad or distressing or gory,
for a writer, dilemmas become a new story.
You should forgive us, for the truth of it is
that the pathos of life provides part of the fizz.
We simply don’t know why there’s all of this fuss,
until the dilemmas happen to us.

The prompt word today was “Dilemma.”

Clouds: No Step? No Problem!!

Thanks for the one word prompt “Clouds” today, WordPress!  Guess who got a window seat on her flight between Guadalajara and Phoenix yesterday and took 206 photos of clouds? The ride, especially the landing, was bumpy but well worth it!

Palm Tree Skyscape

I saw this cloud/jet trail combination from where I sat at an outside mall restaurant.  I jumped up and  tried out several locations, but decided I liked this view the best. This is my favorite type of palm tree.. such a beautifully sculpted trunk.  It gives a bit of texture to this otherwise pretty smooth scene.

Dripping: Jennifer Nichole Wells One Word Photo Challenge: Humid

The most humid place I’ve ever been is Bali, but the Amazon rainforest came in a close second.  Whereas in Bali, our clothing consisted of sarongs and nothing else, fear of mosquitoes and malaria in Peru meant we needed to be fully covered at all times.  This made for sticky times but all that humidity made for gorgeous skies.  Here are some of them:

Tornado (Jennifer Nichole Wells One Word Challenge)

IMG_0340Although neither of these skies produced a tornado, I remember thinking on both occasions that they might!

Clouds

Severe weather alerts make for some pretty spectacular skies.  All of these shots were made as we approached Denver yesterday. Of course the cloudburst occurred just as we were leaving the car to go into the restaurant, then abated, then came on with a vengeance when we exited two hours later. Makes me feel I have such influence in the universe! Streets and fields were flooded all the way to our hotel near the airport. Now I”m at my gate, ready to fly back to Mexico!! It will feel wonderful to stay in one spot for awhile.
