Either Or

Wrong Decision

Either or, either or.
Indecision is a bore.
I scratch my head. I walk the floor,
’til confused and trembling to the core,
I can equivocate no more.
I rise above the neither nor,
reach out my hand. Open the door,
and become the thing of future lore
as the tiger outs its mighty roar.

The prompt today was “Or.”

When One Zinnia isn’t Enough: Flower of the Day, Nov 11, 2016

Here’s an interesting (quixotic?) idea about how to change the results of the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

If you are distressing over the U.S. presidential election, do not give up!!!  The electoral college does not meet until December 19 and if enough delegates can be persuaded to vote for Hillary instead of Trump, she can be declared the winner.  Please read the three links below and sign the petition, then Tweet, Facebook and email this to everyone you know.

(The petition is printed below so you can read it directly, but I’m giving a link as well, to get to the actual petition and sign it. If you’re reading the petition from a Mexican IP address, it seems to appear in Spanish. I and my tech guy can’t seem to fix that.)

A petition to the U.S. Electoral College HERE.

And a justification for the possibility HERE.

And a reminder of what Trump said just 4 years ago HERE.

On December 19, the Electors of the Electoral College will cast their ballots. If they all vote the way their states voted, Donald Trump will win. However, they can vote for Hillary Clinton if they choose. Even in states where that is not allowed, their vote would still be counted, they would simply pay a small fine – which we can be sure Clinton supporters will be glad to pay!

We are calling on the Electors to ignore their states’ votes and cast their ballots for Secretary Clinton. Why?

Mr. Trump is unfit to serve. His scapegoating of so many Americans, and his impulsivity, bullying, lying, admitted history of sexual assault, and utter lack of experience make him a danger to the Republic.

Secretary Clinton WON THE POPULAR VOTE and should be President.

Hillary won the popular vote. The only reason Trump “won” is because of the Electoral College.

But the Electoral College can actually give the White House to either candidate. So why not use this most undemocratic of our institutions to ensure a democratic result?

SHE WON THE POPULAR VOTE.

There is no reason Trump should be President.

“It’s the ‘People’s Will'”

No. She won the popular vote.

“Our system of government under our Constitution says he wins”

No. Our Constitution says the Electors choose.

“Too many states prohibit ‘Faithless Electors'”

24 states bind electors. If electors vote against their party, they usually pay a fine. And people get mad. But they can vote however they want and there is no legal means to stop them in most states.

Letter Aaron Sorkin Wrote His Daughter After Donald Trump Was Elected President

Never have seen or read anything by Sorkin that I didn’t enjoy and agree with. That trend continues.

I’ve always liked Aaron Sorkin’s shows, especially The West Wing and Newsroom.  Here is what he says about Donald Trump.  This is letter published on Vanity Fair’s website

Read the Letter Aaron Sorkin Wrote His Daughter After Donald Trump Was Elected President  – The Oscar-winning screenwriter of The Social Network and mastermind behind The West Wing reacts to Donald Trump being elected the 45th president of the United States in a moving letter written to his 15-year-old daughter Roxy and her mother Julia Sorkin.

Sorkin Girls,

Well the world changed late last night in a way I couldn’t protect us from. That’s a terrible feeling for a father. I won’t sugarcoat it—this is truly horrible. It’s hardly the first time my candidate didn’t win (in fact it’s the sixth time) but it is the first time that a thoroughly incompetent pig with dangerous ideas, a serious psychiatric disorder…

Precognition

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”
— H. L. Mencken

Feeling Vegetal

The prompt word today was “Vegetal.” I’m setting up the Feria booth so this has to be quick:

Vegetal: of or relating to that pole of the ovum or embryo that contains the less active cytoplasm, and frequently most of the yolk, in the early stages of development. “vegetal cells”

Feeling Vegetal

You’re talking about ovum, embryo and yolk?
This early in the morning? I think that it’s a joke.
I thought that I’d collected every word to do my bidding,
but I’ve never heard this word before. Vegetal? You’re kidding.
Biology was never my favorite class in college,
so I guess it must have sort of limited my knowledge.
But now I know that vegetal means relating to plants,
I’m sure I’ll use it widely—every time I have the chance.
My grocery cart? Most vegetal, now that I’m on a diet.
My garden very vegetal, I see as I walk by it.
And if I get lazy, just sitting on my bum,
I’ll say “I’m feeling vegetal” to all my friends who come
to pull me out to walk or dance or just exit my door.
“Vegetal” is a handy word. Have you any more?

This cheerful riot of color is my friend Candace’s house in Chapala.  Have you ever seen a more colorful door, or more colorful surroundings?

I love how these little Thunbergia guys twist and turn as they make their way through the foliage of other plants. They are real social climbers.

Why We Grieve Today

This statement by John Pavlovitz is probably the most eloquent statement of how many of us are feeling on this day after the election.  http://johnpavlovitz.com/2016/11/09/heres-why-we-grieve-today/
