Wonky WP???

Has anyone else been having problems with Word Press while they take a few days off to improve their service?  The Daily Prompt won’t let anyone establish links, I’ve been unable to get to one post I tried to reach.  Any other problems?  I don’t know why, but adversity loves company.

That 4-Letter D Word. What Other?

DOGS!!!!!

Whether at home with brother Diego or meeting new friends at the beach, Morrie is definitely a water dog. Once mom put the steps in the pool, it made it even easier to exit. He liked all the new scents at the beach—from babies to bottoms. Oh, Morrie.

First Love’s Sting

First Love’s Sting

How deep the piercing, how sharp the sting
once young love starts to lose its bling.
Hearts start to stutter that used to sing.
You aren’t his princess, he’s not your king.
Your broken heart, trapped in a sling,
cannot follow when he takes wing,
taking with him everything.

No veil, no vows, no rice, no ring.
What passed for love was just a fling.
The love you thought would always cling
ripped cruelly with his exiting.
Your song of starlight, love and spring,
alas, was just a passing thing.
You’re left with “. . . . jada jing jing jing.”

No symphony, but just a ditty.
So goes first love, dear.  Such a pity.

The prompt yesterday was sting, but since the link still doesn’t work, let’s just say

sometimes, love doesn’t turn out to be as glorious as we might have wished.

Tapalpa Bound: Cee’s Which Way Challenge, Sept 16, 2017

One of the most beautiful drives I’ve taken in Mexico is this drive during wildflower season, up to the village of Tapalpa in the the mountains near my home. I think I need to pass that way again this year.

Cosmos: Flower of the Day, Sept 16, 2017

In September and October, the fields on the way to the mountain town of Tapalpa, a few hours from my home,  fill with millions of flowers, including acres and acres of cosmos.  These photos were taken ten years ago and Oscar, the little boy in this photo, is now 12 years old. Perhaps it is time to take his little sister up into the fields this year!

Cee’s posting of her cosmos flowers today prompted me to echo her post.

For Cee’s Flower Prompt.

Mommy Think

The Prompt: Reverse Shot—What’s your earliest memory involving another person? Recreate the scene — from the other person’s perspective.

My earliest memory is waking up in my crib and making a noise to let my mom know I was awake and then watching her walk in with a big grin.  I remember very clearly thinking how delighted she was to see me and how anxious she must have been for me to wake up!  Ha!

Mommy Think

I can hear the baby stirring, but she’s quiet for now.  I guess I’ll try to finish the Daily Crossword before going in to see if she’s really ready to get up from her nap.  If she’s wet or restless, she always lets me know—the same gurgle as usual, but a bit louder, to make sure I notice.

The divan I’m lying on is so close to the open door to her room that…

For Cee’s Daily Flower Prompt

Not to Taste

We spend so much of our time choosing, discussing, cooking or devouring food that we consider to be flavorful, but rarely do we consider just how flavorful we ourselves may be.

Not to Taste

I have no taste for seafood—neither sea bass nor crustacean.
My friends’ attempts to feed them to me end in their frustration.
I cannot stand the taste of them—their odor nor their texture.
I’ve heard that they are good for me, so please spare me the lecture!

When I was in New Orleans, they tried to feed me gator.
I politely turned it down and had a burger later.
For though a gator’s not a fish, and that’s something I know,
they must be family somehow, ‘cause both live in H2O!

Sometimes I go out birding up a river by the sea.
The grandson of the captain comes along to talk to me.
The river’s full of crocodiles, and birds overhead
fly in by the thousands to seek their evening bed.

They rest so gently in the trees that I forget the threat
of all those crocs there down below, lurking in the wet.
Most of the year the estuary’s cut off from the sea,
but this year there was one big rain that set the river free.

When I was swimming Saturday, beyond the surf, just me,
I saw some people looking at—whatever could it be?
I just went on exercising in the surf and sand.
The sun went down but I stayed out. The water was just grand.

But when I finally came to land, folks there on the beach
told me that a croc passed by, well beyond my reach.
And since I, too, was out there as handy as could be,
I sure am glad that crocodile had no taste for me!!!!

Today’s prompt word is flavorful. This poem found in my archives was written so long ago that I had forgotten it.  Hopefully, you have, too. The beautiful photo of ceviche was snapped in La Manzanilla, as was the photo of the croc. The event described in the poem was true, by the way. Since then I’ve instructed friends to call me in out of the water no matter how far away the croc is!
