The Process of Intuition: Fandango’s Provocative Question #88

To what degree have you been able to control the course that your life has taken? Or is being in control of your life just an illusion?

I have lived many different lives in my life and have found that the best path to follow is my intuition. I have changed my entire life because of a dream, or because of a chance meeting with someone who told me of a place I’d never been to where he thought I should be living, or because of a book handed to me by a complete stranger as I was leaving a plane who said, “I think it’s time for you to read this book.” Another time, a woman I didn’t even remember meeting at a Bay Area Women Writer’s convention sent me a book that entirely changed my life. Somehow, when I cease doing what I think I should do and instead follow an inkling of what I want to do, even if it seems illogical, it leads me toward another wonderful choice in life.

This Little Pinky…

From real piggies to this little piggy to someone’s broken-nailed pinky, one way or another, I hope these photos fulfill the “Piggy Pink” prompt.

Deadly Pick

Deadly Pick

His coat size has been swelling as his fame keeps shrinking down.

His goal of being lionized has not earned him a crown.
His attempts at speech are aggravating, branding him a fool.
The “facts” he states extraneous, and fiction, as a rule.
He proved to have no budding talent, in fact he’s never bloomed.
From the day they picked him, our country has been doomed.
The seeds he’s spread are poisonous, the ground they fall on blighted,
but hopefully we’ll see the light and his wrongs will be righted.
The seeds of fairness sown again. Our course once more set straight.
And all the horrors he’s planted will wither and abate.

Here’s Why I Think We’ll Be OK.

If you’re worried about kids and remote learning, read this great essay by Karen at Empty Nest, Full Life.

Today my five year old granddaughter was here. She and her three year old brother helped me make and eat a batch of pancakes, then we all decorated my house for Halloween.

After a few more games and a light lunch of dry cereal (their choice, not mine!), Ellie got ready for her remote kindergarten class.

The school district where Ellie is enrolled, and where her Mom is a teacher, has given families the option of a hybrid school year or a fully remote year. Neither choice seemed perfect leading into the fall, and neither seemed to offer everything that Ellie should have in her first school experience.

But given the uncertainties of the pandemic, and our fear/belief that all schools will be shut down for remote learning by the time flu season emerges, Ellie’s parents decided to have her go remote.

Today I got to see remote kindergarten learning…

“Far from the Madding Crowd”:

Solitary Confinement

My world is a clam with me gathered up in it.
With no one else to arrange it or spin it.
I do not deviate, wander or travel.
No complications for me to unravel.
Life proffers no parties and no invitations.
No drop-in guests and no visitations.
Gatherings are not my present domain,
so if I were invited, I’d surely abstain.
I’m sealed in my world— happily, sublimely,
for group celebrations are simply not timely.
Lately for me, the crowds are not madding.
It’s taken a virus for me to stop gadding.

Prompt words today are clam, deviate, timely, proffer and gather.

Give Me That Blue (Quadrille for dVerse Poets)

Not the blue of a heart before forgetting.
The blue of the sky above Colima Volcano,
no other clouds in it except one puff
of earth’s hot breath becoming visible
in the cool morning air.
Like blue caught in icicles.
Give me that blue.

A personal note of interest. The water in my house is heated by this volcano!
