Staining Black the Cold Floor

This is another of S. Thomas’s poems that I absolutely love. Hope you go to his blog to finish reading it!

Listed or Listless

The Prompt:  Have you ever made a New Year’s Resolution that you kept?

Write it down!!!!

Listed or Listless?

Of course I have accomplished my New Year’s Resolutions.  A few times.  Once I did a project with a friend where we each wrote down what we wanted to accomplish.  I believe I had eight things.  Since we illustrated our resolutions, my quotes of what I wanted were scattered throughout my illustrations.  Shortly after we did this, she moved back to the states and in time I forgot my little artwork.

A few years later, I found it when I was cleaning and reorganizing my studio.  I looked at my page, turning it this way and that to read the resolutions that twisted around and through the colored sketches.  I was surprised to find I’d accomplished every one, including losing weight, getting a book published (actually by the time I found it, I’d self-published three books), and finding a partner (now a friend, but nonetheless, I managed to reenter the dating scene after years of still feeling married to my deceased husband.)

I don’t remember what the rest of my resolutions were and a new search of my studio didn’t result in finding it.  Perhaps it requires actually cleaning and reordering the studio to warrant this reward; but, this exercise taught me what I’d learned long before and forgot.  Writing resolutions down has a sort of magic.  I think it moves them to a different, more active part of our brain.  Even though that part of the brain might still be in the subconscious regions, somehow our written-down resolutions sit there as little telepathic cheerleaders, urging us onward to action.

Lest I grow too listless again, I think perhaps it is time to make another list!!!

The Answer: Flower of the Day, Jan. 6, 2016

                                                          The Answer:

IMG_1066 (1)

This is the answer to the previous post entitled “What is It?” The answer is that the earlier pictures were of the inside of this Datura flower.  Hard to believe such a long bell-shaped flower would look so non-assuming and flat inside.  I expected a long exotic stamen and pistils similar to a hibiscus flower.

Cee’s Share Your World, Week 1, 2016

Every week, Cee asks those who answer her prompt to answer several questions.  Here are my answers for this week:

As a child, who was your favorite relative?

I adored my Uncle Rob, although I probably only saw him 5 or 6 times in my life. He was my mother’s sister’s husband and although he was the state superintendent of schools, he had a goofy and fun sense of humor. His grandkids talked about him setting his farts on fire, although I can’t testify to the veracity of this potential slander! He used to send us boxes of books that had been sent to him to review as potential textbooks for the schools. Living in a tiny town where the closest library was 60 miles away, it was a real thrill to have those books at our disposal. The last time I had congress with him was six years after his death during a Ouija Board session in Australia. I think I’ve told of that in another blog.

If you could be a tree or plant, what would you be?

A huge oak tree with a kid’s treehouse in it.

Would you prefer to awaken before dawn or before noon?

I like to wake up about 8 or 8:30—so the daily prompt has been posted––then to lie in bed and do the prompt!!

Would you like to sleep in a human size nest in a tree or be snuggled in a burrowed spot underground?

A human sized nest in a tree. More interesting and less lethal creatures seem to hang out in trees and I’d have a great view.

What are you grateful for from last week, and what are you looking forward to in the week coming up?

I am so grateful to my sister and brother-in-law for providing a wonderful Xmas and for my longtime friends Patty and Marti for flying in to spend it with us. In the week coming up, I’m looking forward to having Chino come to install the cabinets in the doggie domain so it will be easier to feed my critters!

Family Portrait: Odd Ball Photo 2016 Week 1

Family Portrait

I very much wanted to get a nice portrait of this darling family at our club New Years party, and the mom seemed perfectly happy to oblige. The lighting wasn’t good, so I assumed there would be some problems, but . . .

IMG_0926

IMG_0927the kids seemed to have a different idea about what constituted a good family portrait.

IMG_0928When their older brother zoomed in to join them, I assumed he would instill a little family order.  Wrong!  The mom still seemed oblivious to what was going on behind her back and to her right.

IMG_0929
So big brother joined in the fun.  Mom still cute, isn’t she? And innocent.

Finally, mom cottoned on to what was happening and tried to restore order.

But I think she’s finally given up, don’t you?

I loved this simple view of this tiny thunbergia against the blue sky.

Blogomania

Sun Goin’ Down on the Social Network!

Blogomania

Blog obsession? I tried to quit.
How did I get over it?
I psychoanalyzed myself,
then put my blog up on a shelf
and ventured out to have a life––
to be a girlfriend or a wife.
I went on social media,
put up with all its tedia
to try to find that special one
to have some extra-blogging fun.
I used my laptop not for blogging
but for romantic lollygogging.

And when I found a special one
who seemed intelligent and fun,
we wrote a bit and then, and then
I thought that I could blog again.
I confessed to him (with perfect diction)
my very slight blogging addiction.
He asked to read my blog and so
I told him just where he could go
to read me. Then I didn’t hear
from him again.  I thought it queer.

Finally, I asked him why
he’d let our conversation die.
He wrote back and that is when
he said I hadn’t time for men.
That if he wants more information,
he’ll simply get his daily ration
on my blog, then said good-bye.
And that is how I lost that guy.
Of future loves?  I had one fewer.
But at least I gained a viewer!!!

The Prompt: Happy Endings.  Tell us about something you tried to quit.  How did that turn out?
