Wayward Duck

Wayward Duck

A wayward duck up on a hill.
He don’t come down and never will.
He invents reasons to stay up.
Comes down to buy his food to sup.
Recharges rum, then up he goes
to computerize and then to doze.
Seeks neither censure nor promotion.
Tries to fend off gross emotion.
Keeps himself up on a shelf.
Communes with no one but himself
except online where he comports
with on-air folks of different sorts.
For though he might seem misbegotten,
here on air he’s not forgotten.

Prompt words today are recharge, promote, wayward, invent, duck and hill.

Ducks in a Row

It was Duckie’s niece Hummie who first christened him “Duck,” when she was too little to pronounce “Doug.”  I complicated the matter by calling him Duckie and since then, Ducks seem to have flocked into his life.  From me, from our friends Gloria, Patty and Judy (posthumously) from another friend Nancy and from his friend Ann. Now, as you can see, he is being kept busy keeping his ducks in a row. You might recognize Little Duck of past blogging fame in this lineup.

Return to the Adventures of Little Duck

Some of you have been following the adventures of Big and Little Duck, but for those of you new to my blog, since Ragtag’s Daily prompt is “Duck”, this seems a good opportunity to catch you up on their history.

Here are some links to their past adventures:

Calling Uncle Duckie

Calling Uncle Duckie

I can’t get my link established. Guess I’m just unlucky.
Luckily, I have a fix. I just call Uncle Duckie!
He can fix most anything from formatting to routers;
but you’ve got to stay real calm. He doesn’t work with pouters!

“Uncle Duckie, dear,” I say via email or on Skype.
“I want to post my post now, but I have a little gripe.
I can’t get my poem to post in single space, my dear.
It looks too long when double-spaced, and I have a fear

no one will read a two-paged poem. Long postings are no fun.
Is there any way that I can get it down to one?”
“Hit shift-return at ends of lines,” he tells me really pronto.
On my blog he wears the mask. And me? I’m merely Tonto!!!! **

** Note: In Spanish, “Tonto” means stupid. In other words, if viewed in Guadalajara, our favorite childhood program would be called, “The Lone Ranger and Stupid!”

If you’ve been perusing my blog for over three years, you’ve read this before.  Time you read it again as Uncle Duckie, also known as OKCforgottenman is still the one I turn to whenever there is a problem and in-between problems as well. This is a perfect chance to thank him again. The prompt today was calling.

Hate to rain on your beautiful sunrise, but the beauty of the morning sky doesn’t tell the whole story.

Little Boy Blue

Since I leave tomorrow to go back to Mexico, I must avail myself of the opportunity to photograph the elastic face of Forgottenman, nee Big Duck, as much as I can.  Here, he first reveals his confusion over how to choose from the varied menu at Perkins, then reflects on whether he made the correct choice, glories smugly over the fact that he believes he has, then fondly remembers meals of his past before just trying to adopt his intellectual pose and failing completely.  At any rate, all poses are adorable, and I do appreciate his role of chauffeur in driving me all over six different states to visit friends and relatives.  No greater love than to do the driving while I catch up on my blogging!

If you’d like to enjoy an even more detailed view of his countenance, click on the first photo to enlarge them all.  Lucky you.

The color prompt for Nancy’s Weekly photo challenge is “Blue” this week.

Duck and Cover

Duck and Cover

Little Duck heard Big Duck trying to cover a new Tom Waits song and he was rattling at the door to get out.

Little Duck couldn’t help vamping it up a bit as he joined in the chorus

DSC09665

As if magnetized, Little Duck was drawn to Big Duck’s riffs, but when, his enthusiasm overwhelming him, he attempted to join in, he ruined the chord.

DSC09666

He attempted to straighten out Big Duck’s fingering, but they could both tell this wasn’t going to work.

So, once Little Duck was able to overcome Big Duck’s slight annoyance, they were able to talk it over and come to a compromise.

And together, they discovered they could take the “Long Way Home” together. THE END
